Architecture is something that appeals to all of us. Whether it's new or old, there's something about designing buildings, bridges, any sort of physical structure that will stand out to us as something we love or hate. With that, your mission, should you choose to accept it (and you should):

Take a photo involving architecture. How you do it is up to you.

      And as always, THE RULES:

      1. You can submit one or two photos for this challenge. The photos must be taken after the mission start date. You can submit it in a number of ways:
      • Post it in the comments below as a link or embedded image (I personally host my stuff on Imgur to avoid bogging the server down)
      • Share a link to a hosting site such as 500px, Flickr, Instagram, whatever
      • Send it in an email to leducthecanuck [at] gmail [dot] com, with your Hyphen Handle attached
      • Carve it into the snow using a snowboard and by catching some sweet gnar
      1. The deadline is January 16th. The gallery will be up on the 17th.

      2. This is not a judged competition. This is just for fun and to show off our work.

      3. With your submission please tell us about the photos. Your gear, the settings, any edits, and a bit about the photo, if you feel so inclined.

      4. Any camera is welcome, even phone cameras.

These missions are intended to be fun, and to give people a reason to get out and shoot. I would like for positive discussion to come about from these. We'll take suggestions on the next photo mission.

Now, go forth and complete your mission!

Ooh, I'm all over this one. Architecture photography is a very different beast than car photography.

I'll go first I guess. The Meskanaw Railway Trestle outside of Melfort, Saskatchewan. The longest railway trestle in the province, built in the 20s and last used in the 70s. 20mm ISO 1250 F/7.1 1/400.

I went out and drove to La Plata way up in the morning for these. Very old settlement, Port Tobacco was established in 1727 and was the largest colonial town in Maryland at the time. Due to other factors there are only 13 people living there now. I took other photos and it's really due a more researched post.

St. Ignatius is the oldest continuously operated church in the Americas, oldest surviving Georgian style building in the state, it's been around since 1741. The church also was one of the only organizations to record the Piscataway people as Native Americans during Jim Crow, when most natives on the East Coast were recognized as free people of color or black. And slaves were also sold here by the Jesuits. But that is a lot more complicated and nuanced history than we have time to get into here. Suffice to say it's old.

@cb The remains of a residential school in Mission BC. Taken with my Pixel as I’m trying to work on getting better at composition. I’ve got the mechanics of the trifecta of DSLR down...I’m trying to work on the art itself. Any suggestions are appreciated

@cb OK, two submissions from me. Not my best work to be honest. In any event, I took a little walk and got a couple things around here.

First up is Sacred Heart Church, a 1950's futurist Catholic church run by the Franciscans, built largely of aluminum and glass:
                  DSC_0058.JPG
I would have liked to get a better angle, but were a lot of telephone/electrical wires around and I didn't want them in my shot.

Second, here are some towers at the former Waltham Watch factory, one of two huge 19th century factories here in town:
                  DSC_0110.JPG

A little overexposed perhaps, but I think it highlights that fabulous brick work, and makes an otherwise gray sky a bit more appealing.

I did have another composition I liked at the factory (probably better than this one), but now that I see them on the big screen, my lens was having trouble keeping the top of the smokestack in focus so they didn't come out great. Perhaps I'll try again sometime!

Both shots are from a Nikon D5000 with a Nikkor 35mm DX f/1.8 lens.
