Do you like your eggs fried?
-
Hello everyone. This will be my first photodump attempt on The Hyphen.
A friend of mine bought a 911 a month or so ago, a plain old 996. Not a Turbo, nothing fancy, just a 996 with the 3.4. It did come on turbo twist wheels, but he hated them, so he got these big fuchs reps instead. It also has Fabspeed exhaust already. I haven’t driven it, but from what I can gather from the passenger seat, it’s a lot of fun to drive. He asked me to take some photos of it yesterday, and since he likes things on the punchier/contrastier/saturated side, that’s what these are.
So without further ado, here’s some fried eggs for you all.

Quality dump. Great photos!

@davesaddiction Thanks! The image compression looks terrible, but it's a bit better if you click the photos to open in a separate window. Still not great compared to being able to upload full size files to kinja.

Same post as Kinja Oppo:
I’m just old enough to remember how batshit the Porsche people were about the 996 in the new millennium with the Internets. Water Cooled? Boxster Headlights?! FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I think jminer is keeping the image compression the way it is for now to make things manageable with storage in his private server. Hopefully that will change soon with more heavy duty hosting.
-
@gmctavish Sorry - probably will turn that down later but trying to save on storage costs at the moment
They look good anyway though.
Also if you upload them to an imgur or wherever they'll embed at full resolution, I just compress the hell out of them on upload now.
-
Nice! I have to say that Fuchs wheels are one of those wheel types that never look bad...
-
@gmctavish love this shot
As blob eyed as it seems they always look more striking in person, and the 996 still feels like the only truly attainable 911 -

No apology necessary! I figured it was due to server constraints. I'm grateful we have anything at all, but this site is seriously impressive, especially for how little time it's been up.
I can't speak for everyone but I'd be happy to chip in a bit down the road so we could have more storage -
Good fried eggs! And very nice photo work @gmctavish
-
@gmctavish Turned out great! Is that his DD?

Yeah I'm quite happy with them, they turned out well for a very overcast day.
At the moment it's his DD for non-kid duties, and he's got an Audi Q8 for kid duties. He also has like 12 other cars lol. This is the dude who sold the neon blue E30 vert on BaT that I took photos of -
@gmctavish 12 cars eh? I shall endeavor to meet this person
-
Hey now, that could totally be even more of a plain 996 than it is. At least it has (most) of the 996.1 Euro GT3 aero package -- that's ....something!
-
@gmctavish These look great and congratulate your friend on dumping the twists, those are my least favorite wheels on the 996.
it is absolutely true that the 996 is the only attainable 911 for most of us, I have a C2 cab and it is the best summer car I could ever want (and afford until kids get through college). The hydraulic steering, 6-speed manual and overall engagement is just too much fun. I need to get some pics next year when it comes out of hibernation.
Good work

I should buy a Porsche.
-
I love the 996, until you get into the early 2000's interior.
That being said, I don't mind the fried eggs. I remember some company was selling new bumpers and headlight assemblies to get rid of them. I think they are perfect, as I remember as a kid these being THE 911 on every poster and school folder.
-
@gmctavish Love it. Having had both a 996 and 997, there are a LOT of things I like about the 996 more. If I were shopping again, I'd probably be looking for a 996.

The interior isn't so bad in black....The steering wheel could definitely be changed though

Yeah, I've definitely been browsing 996 listings after getting a ride in that thing...
-
@gmctavish It certainly feels like an early 2000's VW interior.
-
I might be able to review one of those cracked eggs... And yes... I lost my SHIT when that one came out. I mean, you go from a classic design to water-cooled AND those fugly headlights? Nah fam... The Porsche engine builder probably agreed, because they baked that IMS bearing in there to ensure some of them died an early death.
-
Yeesh the compression on those is terrible
-
@gmctavish Yes in fact I like them fried and runny
