Why isn't there a Blazer Activ?
-
It's weird that with the market clearly favoring rugged, off-road crossovers and SUVs that the Blazer doesn't have an Activ trim while its little brother does (and it's supposedly relatively capable too).
I'm not the only one with this idea either apparently lol.

Maybe GM is waiting for the mid-cycle refresh but we all know this is money being left on the table.

That's because it's targeted at the InActiv crowd...
-
It's hard to argue with that.
-
@manwich Oof, although I'm shocked how young they are. Most of the Edge and Blazer owners where I live are at least in their mid-fifties.
Jeep has made bank off of their Trailhawk trims for years now but most companies are still hesitant to offer off-road trims for their crossovers.
-
@carbon-fiber-sasquatch I think they're about as likely to make an off road version of the Camaro as they are to make a (real) off road version of the Blazer.
-
@carbon-fiber-sasquatch Activ is for cheap cars I think. There's no Suburban/Tahoe Activ, nor is there a Traverse Activ. The Blazer is aimed at the same old suburban (hehe) buyer as the aforementioned lot, thus their focus on more "premium" trim levels. It's all marketing anyway.
-
@rider I don't think they'll make anything that would rival a Wrangler or Bronco out of the Blazer but a soft-roader competitor to the Cherokee, Forester or Bronco Sport is more than doable.
-
@manwich no-one wants to own a Bloater...
-
@carbon-fiber-sasquatch It's an Equinox with a body kit. It doesn't need a real offroad trim because it has no real offroad capabilities.

I think GM is happy with where the Blazer sits in the market. Everyone clamors for a "off-road, 4x4 Jeep competitor" without realizing that's a specialized market. The Blazer is a good looking midsize SUV that offers a nice interior, AWD for winter months, and decent fuel economy for it's size. It doesn't need to take on the Bronco and the Wrangler, GM isn't stupid.
They know [GM] that market only has so much growth and only has enough room for a few vehicles. Jeep is learning this as the Gladiator is not the sales darling we all expected it to be. The Bronco will sell well, but we all know the Bronco Sport will sell way more than the Full Size Bronco. Why? Everyone wants a Jeep until they drive it, or they can't afford it. Jeep has their Grand Cherokee, their Cherokee, their Compass and even their Renegade with the Trailhawk trim to sell you a slice of the "Full Jeep Experience" at a cheaper and more comfortable cost.
We'll see the same thing with the Bronco. I imagine at some point we'll see a "Sasquatch" trim on the F150 or Ranger to help sell their offroad based trucks. We'll see Ford offer a slice of the Bronco in a cheaper and more comfortable package, just like in the Bronco Sport.
GM doesn't have any crazy offroad vehicles. They only have the Trail Boss Silverado and the ZR2 Colorado. Most folks who buy those know they are buying a compromised offroad design compared to the competition. What they are lacking they make up for in the comfort and lack of compromise for the on-road experience. The Blazer is a way of looking like a Camaro but having the comfort and size of an SUV. It makes perfect sense in GM's plan, and I don't blame them at all, I say keep it up!

@rider an off road Camaro would be sick. Imagine an Camaro lifted at least 6 inches, with 4 inch box flares, to accommodate a long travel suspension and A/T tires. Camaro Prerunner, Camaro Zr2? Yes please
-
@hfv Exactly, we need a modern Baja Camaro! Something like this:
-
@rider it would sell. Maybe not in 100,000s but it would sell. And Chevy could charge stupid money for it.
-
@hfv I'm all for an off-road Camaro.
-
-
The Blazer is just a Sonic Activ
Also, GM is too stupid to sell us the international Trailblazer (a Colorado with an SUV body)
-
@hfv That's why GM won't build it- it would be awesome, people would go bankrupt for one and it would become a legend overnight. Maybe Ford will, though...
-
@rctothefuture That's all fine and good, but don't call it a Blazer.
-
@benn454 I'm fine with it being called the Blazer. It's a heritage name, and it has brand recognition. People say it should be called "Trailblazer" but I'm sure lots of folks have bad memories of those.
