Name aside, it sounds like a great vehicle. Like, if I still lived in the GTA and wanted to upgrade to an even more old man ride (Hey Rider, I know you're going to say something about this), I'd be 100% onboard with this. And a Mustang coupe in the garage, of course. It seems like they didn't go too far into the "be different" way that Teslas are. The only thing is that they're a lot of money, which blows. In any case, looking forward to EVs being a better option for those of us in the prairies.

I like how he almost ran over Thomas... in true Mustang style.
-
Love how they likely have Thunderbird and Lightning names sitting in a trademark dungeon and this is the name they went with.
Now granted I haven't watched any of the reviews but I can't help but think this may have been a goody base to make Lincoln relevant. I just learned they make something called the Corsair today and it's even sold here in Canada!

Nice car, should not be called Mustang, and not the kind of Mustang that you need. V8 first, then EV.
-
@cb I saw one in the wild a month or so ago...it was actually not bad looking irl.
-
Their thumbnails look like the Straight Pipes introduction sequences to the level of being confusing.
-
@cb I'm wishing that there would be truly sporty EVs. To read @David-Tracy's review, seems like a good crossover option but I'd like an electric roadster. I mean I know there is one, but it's orbiting the sun so I can't buy it.
-
@beefchips I've said it before, I'll say it again, this drivetrain in an S550 "real" mustang chassis would make me rethink a lot of life choices for spending money haha!

@just-jeepin are we allowed to reference that site or is that a ban-able offence?

Oh great, another bloated mall beater for soccer moms to show off in. Ford could've made something sweet, like a american Taycan or something, but no. They made a big deal out of another damn essuvee. I shouldn't get worked up though, they do after all make the Escape, in FWD. Just more garbage made for profit.

"Even if I slam it (the throttle), it comes on smoothly".
"You can't turn the traction control all the way off"
Yeah, it's not a Mustang. If you can't do a burnout, if you can't do a donut, if you can't power oversteer to the point of spinning out , it's not a Mustang. Even the '84 V6 I had in high school could do those things (in the rain).
Plus, I hate it when cars don't trust me with the throttle. If I want full throttle now, I want full power now. Forget what the tires are doing, forget what's most efficient or what's most effective for acceleration. I want POWER! If I end up blowing the launch and smoking the tires, that's on me.
I know I'd have to drive it to know for sure, but there is absolutely nothing about this that makes me want to drive it.

@opposaurus-wrx Most of us (I think!) still have affection for some of the writers, and certainly the recent Oppo hires.
Kinja gave us a home for free for years; I tend to think the resentment is misplaced. Yeah, it was stupid to kick us out, and they handled the closure badly, but again, free bandwidth and hosting and use of what is overall an amazing content management tool.

Hey, I've driven that Mach-E!
https://doubleclutch.ca/2020/12/15/first-drive-2021-ford-mustang-mach-e/
Does this count as a shameless plug? I found it to be quite fun and a really close competitor to the Porsche Macan.

its good looking for sure

@exage03040 100%. Thunderbird would have been perfect, if not just "Mach E" (i.e without the "Mustang" part). Using the Mustang name for this sounds like a cringy cop-out to me, regardless of if the actual car is any good.
-
My next new car is almost certainly going to be electric - and most likely it will be in the mold of the much cursed CUV form and very boring and practical. Unless something happens to my current car though that day is still five or six years away. The Mustang Mach E seems like a good car but it's out of my budget range right now and whatever form it exists in in 2025/6 will probably be out of my budget then. I'm sure there will be more to choose from then since there are cars right now which meet my range needs and budget. That's something I couldn't say just a couple of years ago.
Oh, about the name. I'm not a Mustang fanboy fanatic (though I have liked the examples of the previous and current generation I've driven a lot) but I too think that calling it a Mustang is kind of dumb. It would be like if Porsche named their electric the "911-E" and then blathered on about decades of heritage etc. etc. Now that I think of it, Porsche did name the higher Taycan trim levels "Turbo" didn't they? I guess they're capable of stepping in a pile of marketing too...
P.S. Even though I dislike screens in cars and think the "Turbo" name is ridiculous, If I had a winning lottery ticket I would still order a green Taycan Turbo S in a heartbeat.

This right here! Using the Turbo name is one thing, but calling it a 911 would be a whole 'nother ball game.
-
This car would be 1000% better if they named it the Lightning
-
I am not in the market for an EV. But if I was I wouldn't buy that one on principle alone. They sullied the Mustang name with it.
