I'm -1 LS motors now compared to before
-
I've given my LS6 to a shop to get the bottom end rebuilt. I've also given them the heads to change the valves (since they were bent) and possibly machine them to increase compression. I'll know more once they tear down the short block (remove pistons and crank) and the heads. Fingers crossed it doesn't bankrupt me!
It was quite easy to transport the block, heres some pics

Good luck! Machine shop work can be crazy expensive, hope the damage isn’t too bad though.
Also that’s truck looks good in single cab!

@jminer Thanks! Its a friends truck!
Yeah, it shouldn't need too much machining I hope...the cross hatching was still visible on all cyl and I didn't see any wall scorching. I have no clue how the crank journals look tho, lets see what they say... -

I've never done or been close to this kind of work before. What is the cost comparison of doing this machine work on the old engine vs. buying a new crate engine? Just curious. -
@chariotoflove Im hoping to make around 500hp crank.
For that a new long block without accessories would be ~$5500. This would be a gen 4 block vs the gen 3 that I have right now which means I would need to get an intake, throttle body and harness adapters for this which would be at least $1250 but probably more...
I'm hoping to have everything done on my engine for around ~$6000, that including the shop tearing it down to the block, working on the heads as well as putting it all back together.Plus, while rebuilding the old motor I can use aftermarket parts that are known to perform better. For eg: I'm planning to use the timing chain that they used for the factory backed Vettes that were raced at Le-Mans, Sebring etc...whereas the crate motor will just have the stock chain in it

@looseonexit Thanks! I've asked the shop to recommend me a cam as well, lets see what they come up with...
