How to You Guys Feel About Canoo?
-
If you haven’t heard of Canoo, it’s a California based EV company focus on making spacious people movers and funky trucks. Iirc they had some kind of car sharing subscription service in the works too. I think the design of the cars is great, especially the pick up.
They are taking pre-orders now and claiming an MSPR of 34,750 which would under cut even the Lighting.
So do you think they’ll make it? And more crucially With shares at 8.45 and a valuation of “just” 2 billion would you invest?
Here’s a promotional video they put out awhile ago. -
@hfv I wouldn't invest a single penny.
I think we're currently living through the second "big wave" of automakers... it doesn't play out well for a lot of them https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defunct_automobile_manufacturers_of_the_United_States
-
@hfv When it comes to Electric Vaporware pickups, I highly prefer the "Alpha Wolf" and the "Alpha Wolf +" and the "SuperWolf" (Yes they're their real names)

Whereas Canoo's design inspiration seems to have come straight out of Duplo

@hfv The same way I feel about all of the EV startups: wake me up when vehicles are being delivered to paying customers.
-
@kingt those do look great. It reminds me of a Datsun 510 bucks modern and a pick up.
-
@hfv I want to believe
-
@forsweden enough to buy 10 shares and hold them for 2 years?
-
@carsoffortlangley that’s fair. And I think that’s why so many are siding with Rivian, because they aren’t their own company with Ford and Amazon having such large stakes in them. I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually Amazon just buys them out.
-
@hfv Can-who?

I honestly don't think the acquisition would pass antitrust approval. Although Amazon's stake is super-important to their viability, Ford too. Just like Toyotas involvement in early Tesla.
-
@carsoffortlangley There was a second smaller wave of startups and attempted startups right after WWII, without much success. The only one that lasted was Kaiser, and then, only by ditching their own business and taking over Willys
-
@hfv Unless I can order one and have it delivered to my house...its nothing but pixels.
-
i think they owe me for the design
-
@hfv I love their product, and their design-focused approach. I hope they don't end up in the same place as Faraday Future. They really have a chance to succeed, and I hope they do.
-
@opposaurus-wrx I did think of you when I saw it.
-
@hfv
I feel that I'm standing on the banks of Schitt Creek and I'm about to try and paddle up it in a barbed wire framed prototype Canoo. -
@kingt for likely vapourware vehicles the Alpha’s are hot shit. I’m into what they are shilling.
-
Those will never be sold to consumers, I’m sure the company won’t survive at all. Which is too bad. That truck is wonderful.

My (very) limited experience tells me to treat this one like a bet. There's just not enough information out in the real world to trust that it will increase.
For now, I'm sticking with Lucid and Rivian stocks, they're doing very well at the moment (and the Lucid Air was just named Car of the Year from Motor Trend.)
-
@hfv I don't have high hopes. The price is too low I think. They'd need a massive amount of capital to sustain that low of a price until the reach volume. The design is unique. I'm not a fan. The windshield to driver distance is too far for me. I can see the appeal though. With Rivian making deliveries, the F-150 set to start deliveries over the winter/spring, and GM not far behind. I think the window for electric startups is closing fast. They are about 3 years to late I think.
-
@hfv
I'm rooting for them - their factory will be not far from our town.
-
@hfv Total vaporware. Wouldn't even give it a second thought.
