Mass Effect N7 Day Teaser
-
I am a big Mass Effect fan and love the original trilogy. I however never finished Andromeda even though I tried twice. It just didn't hit as hard. The teaser trailer we got a while back brought Liara back in the mix and with it all those original trilogy feelings came rushing back. Mass Effect 5 is coming!
Naturally it's still a long way away and no doubt BioWare will continue to tease us fans with new snippets of information as time goes on. This past N7 day Bioware teased us with a little poster that they said to not zoom in on... I had to check for myself and create a little video of what I found.
The only thing that is a major bummer is that we'll be waiting for a long long time... Dragon Age is supposed to be first but I really want Bioware to check the hype around each series... I mean, the teasers they released for both last year reached 3.9Million views for Mass Effect vs 966K views for the Dragon Age. Proof is in the pudding. Screw Dragon Age... ME for the WIN! Any other people obsessing over Mass Effect after they saw the poster?

@thedutchtexan Yes, I want this. And I didn't think ME:A was that bad. And I thought DA:I was the worst game in that series, so I'm a bit worried about what DA4 looks like.
I am very curious how they handle the different ME:3 endings though. Mostly different colors, but the implications of each ending are considerably different.

@facw I have my own head-canon about it.
Long story short: I believe they will retcon it. That is the only way to move forward. The correct way? Have us play a prologue that changes it to a uniform ending, or show a prologue. In my mind we are 600 years in the future so it might very well be something that didn't quite stick. 600 years brought people from sailing ships to going to space. Lots can happen, especially in the mass effect universe.
And ME:A wasn't bad, I enjoyed myself. But I end up hitting a wall. Leave it for a couple of days initially and then just don't play again. Probably because I don't have the time. Work, Kids, and then my automotive channel just kills time like nothing else. I need another vacation. Maybe I'll pick it back up and finish it. Because ME:5 is supposed to be a sequel to both ME:3 and ME:A (Which is now ME:4 I suppose).
The main problem I had with ME:A was the fact that you had to drive everywhere vs the more linear feel of ME:3. And the facial animations seemed to have taken a step back for some reason. There was more emotion in the original trilogy. But that could also be my bias talking...

Bioware needs to pick one ending and stick with it to avoid a convoluted mess like Deus Ex 2.
Picking destroy provides a natural "What happened to Commander Shepard?" mystery for a new crew to solve.
-
@thedutchtexan @ForSweden That would be disappointing. And given the complaints about ME3's ending not making player choices meaningful enough, throwing out player actions would seem even worse.
But it's definitely a difficult problem to solve, especially if you want Shepard to be the protagonist, or even just a key component of the plot (and given Liara's presence in trailer, that seems very likely).
Regardless, I'm very interested to see how they deal with it.

@facw You can either declare that all of the endings are heckin' valid or you can have a sequel. You can't have both.

I’m currently about 35 hours into ME:3, as part of the remastered trilogy.
I started with Andromeda, which I liked, but I had no backstory. I was skeptical at all the gushing over ME3, but I get it now. It’s story is as dense as the other heavyweights. As for ME5 being influenced by decisions from past games, BioWare has presidence on this…they can revive the DA Keep concept, where you either input your timeline decisions, or it uses previous game save data if it’s there.

@forsweden @facw destroy is my canon ending and the only ending that has shepard alive at the end (or at least the illusion). I feel however that there is too much going on, and some of the endings simply kill off entire species. Retconning seems the easy path and if bioware plays it out right, give us the retconned beginning months before the new game comes out people can come to terms with it before starting to play. I hated ME:2 because of the way your LI acted towards you. And then the fact that they wanted you to stray. I mean... Tali? Best girl? Come on man, that just isn't fair. I liked her the moment she joined my crew in ME1. But since my character is essentially me in the ME universe I couldn't bare to "cheat" on her.
I actually don't want Shepard in ME5 save for maybe a flashback. Liara looks old in the trailer and that cements it IMHO. I had someone wishing for shepards inclusion saying "THOSE AREN'T WRINKLES" and I just rolled my eyes. She's old fam... deal with it... If Liara is old there is no way in hell Shepard is still alive unless they pull a ME2, and that IMHO is just not done.
@classicdatsundebate I started playing it again (I too bought the remastered edition), and then ran out of free time... ME is a binge game! Need to have time off to play it for hours! I got a week coming so I think I will pick it back up unless I decide to do something proactive with my time off... LOL. I played it all already... And save for me doing more side-quests I am largely making the same choices.

@thedutchtexan
Javik puts him in a Prothean stasus pod at the end of 3 and the Salarians take him to Noveria for safe keeping.
Liara returns to thaw him out.
(There’s lots of ways Shepard could be in the game)
-
@classicdatsundebate There's a bunch of ways you can imagine him being there (for control or synthesis endings you could imagine his consciousness being preserved in some Reaper tech).
For the destroy ending, I could imagine Shepard being put into statis, though I don't see Javik, Avatar of Vengeance, being the one to do it.

The Lazarus rebuild prevents Shepard from aging. -
@facw @classicdatsundebate there can be lots of ways to bring him back... But that is also a can of worms. Shepard IMHO is only as good as his crew. What about our boy Garrus doing calibrations? Or our best girl Tali? Or if you romanced Liara waking up to her being... well... old... And with 600+ years of life under her belt? She won't be the same. The Lazarus rebuild preventing Shepard from aging? Interesting notion, but that would mean the same problems in regards to the more mortal crew vs the Krogan and Asari. Krogan I believe can live north of 2000 years, although they usually get blown away before they get even close to that age. Drack in ME:A is 1400 years old and still kicking ass. Any issues he has is because he's a Krogan and undoubtedly got shot, stabbed and everything in between. Asari live beyond 1000 years but I don't think they got the same lifespan. I think I have read 1200 years somewhere but I could be mistaken.
If they bring Shepard back? I'll still play it. It is unrealistic to think my headcanon is going to be a thing at all. But it is a way for me to keep my sanity while waiting for the game...
