[after adding fuel to diagnose no-start condition] ...left just enough for them to make it to the gas station about 1/4 mile from the shop.

Pcv valve or oil getting out through the crankcase. Essentially clogged so it blows some oil through the air intake. Also worn rings. Considering no oil on the disptick and little to no maintenance ever done on this thing there's a lot of different reasons. Could be turbo too. Haven't gotten too far with it yet.
F550 towed in for a no start this was his air filter (no oil on dipstick)

Sadly flat towed behind an RV. Got pulled over on the interstate throwing sparks. Covered by warranty!
Towed with the e-brake on

Previous owner tried to replace their own belt, left a bolt loose which found its way in the engine covers and tore the belt to shreds. Luckily didn’t go through the whole way, had only done a couple thousand kms.Holding on by a thread…

We are sending it back to the same shop for them to rebuildJust had this motor built. Builders did not account for the added valve movement due to the larger cam. Motor was given to us basically dry. Clearly didn't check anything. Needless to say everyone is pissed.
UPDATE: Got a picture of the bank of cylinders from the head we removed, you can clearly see on the rear cylinder where the valve smacked the piston when it was still attached and when it was no longer attached. After a quick inspection of the other bank, found basically the same except none broke.

I did not have to put that much heat into them im going to Reinforce them with a piece of c channel and bring them all the way up to top of the c channel and put new bolts in everything...

Customer states that the transmission we built for him (HD 4L60E) is "garbage" and wants us to warranty it. Had MAF codes that wouldn't clear. Inspected the sensor and couldn't find it.
Apparently he installed a hot air intake after our repairs and "deleted" his MAF...
...surprisingly, it runs and drives. It's shift timing and quality is super poor, and lockup is disabled because there's no MAF input being reported. But it still runs through the gears.
Some people's kids...Customer states the transmission we built is "garbage" and works worse than before.

Yeah we had to trans-load and replace a bunch inside. Outside was only breached a little so we sealed it with caulking.
Loaders. Watch your forks… please.

Friction material actually wasn’t burnt and had plenty of life left. Mechanical failure in the pressure plate/springs.
Customer states “clutch felt funny for a few weeks then stopped moving”

04 Hyundai Elantra
Lmao going 5mph around the parking lot was a white knuckle experience
Showed her this video (muted, of course). Explained what they were looking at. Explained the astronomical cost of repair vs the value of the car. She said it had been a wonderful car for 17 years, she wasn't even mad. Hyundai lost their asses on a subframe failure lawsuit, issued a recall years ago, but I am waiting doubtfully to hear if she'll get anything for it at this point.I do not understand how in the cinnamon toasted fuck they drove it to me like this.

It was on a pontiac vibe with 220k on original motor he is hopefully getting a new vehicle soon but he needs this one for a while longer while he looks for one
Guy needed a bad headgasket and wasn't happy with the price and despite our concerns he wanted to try a headgasket sealer, wish him luck!

...Older customer didn't know what gear they were in and backed into a short retaining wall. Car sounded like a lawn mower coming in.
The power was down a bit.

@urambo-tauro My hunch is that these are only going to get better/scarier the longer the new/used market is crazy. Lord have mercy.

@urambo-tauro For that Corvette, I estimate it's gonna be expensive.

@jeepoftheseus hadn't thought of that. theres a buyhere pay here i pass on my way to target, that is still oddly full and I
wonderdread where they're scrounging those from. -
@gmporschenut-also-a-fan-of-hondas Now that you mention it the one nearest to me has still held on to it’s early 2000s S Class with the collapsed suspension throughout all of this. That and the C5 Z06 that they want $30k for. The rest of the lot has had decent turnover but those two vehicle seem to be the hook for getting people on the lot.
Edit to add that it’s probably a good time to be in the repo business as well.
-
@urambo-tauro 1. that Hyundai is a death trap. 2. that Bridgestone tyre is amazing. inner tube is clearly doing its job for now.
-
@jeepoftheseus every one has some driveway ornament with Christmas tree dash waiting for a moron to come by.
