Club Oppo on Strava, close competition this week

Snuck in on ya at the last minute! I was too busy skiing this week to rack up biking time. So I biked well after sunset today to claim the lead.
@VincentMalamuteNow I've gotta debate whether I'm willing to suffer through another ride tomorrow in order to ensure you don't retake the lead. Today was definitely a sufferfest so I'm gonna be feeling it!
But also, the mountains are calling!
Pic filled post of all the adventures of this trip coming soon.

@wrong-wheel-drive If we counted walking I may do OK, but riding season is over imo. It's wet AF.
-
@wrong-wheel-drive Well done! The wife sustained a minor fracture in her wrist a couple weeks ago when we were in the junkyard so that's kept her off her bike and me too since I mostly rode with her. She's going absolutely stir crazy too.
-
You have only confirmed that I'm crazy. It's too windy and wet in Seattle in November to do much cycling, but I got in about 8 hours of trail running in the past week.
-
@wrong-wheel-drive you are getting some good seat time in. It’s hard to get rides in now in Montana with the time change and terrible weather.
-
There's an Oppo Strava club? Is this just for cycling or do you accept runners?

Come one, come all! It's setup as a triathlon club so running, cycling, and swimming all count towards the leaderboard.

I have to get to real high altitudes to find any winter. And even then right now it's more like spring due to the snow on the ground but sunny and 50+ temps during the day. Daylight running out is why im riding with a light every day now. I'm just happy to be able to wear some layers this time of the year.

hahaha! I didn't think anyone was paying attention to the Strava club since no one comments on Strava. I've been having a lot of trouble getting out there the last few weeks even though it really helps my mental state. Problem is when the mental state goes down, it makes it that much more difficult to get outside. But your post got me over the hump to go ride today! So thanks for that.
After about two hours, I actually thought about adding a small route for another hour to make it harder for you to retake first place!
It was so windy and I wasn't having fun so I went home. Looking at the final stats for this week, I regret I didn't stay out for that extra hour!

Colorado's Front Range has pretty decent weather, it sounds similar to yours. Today's ride was 62 degrees and sunny. I'm lucky to be able to ride during the day though.

@vincentmalamute haha that right there is the whole point of the club! Nobody actually cares what the numbers are or who did what. Just that it motivates us in some way to ride some more. I guess I should have kept quiet, then I wouldn't have needed to go ride lol. I thought maybe you missed the post but figured Id hedge my bets. My legs were so dead that a sub 30 mile ride was hard. So worth it though for the view at inspiration point!

That is funny picturing both of us sitting around at home neither of us wanting to go ride and trying to strategize about the minimum amount of riding to take or keep first place!
You're absolutely right, you posting here though got me off my ass. Too windy today and it's getting cold the next few days. Or am I trying to lull you into a false sense of security this week?

I would not have ridden the day after your big ride. You're so much stronger so this competition only works by tallying hours. Plus road miles don't easily compare to mountain bike miles.

Plus road miles don't easily compare to mountain bike miles. This is always so baffling to me. I'll happily do 60 or 70 miles on the road bike and I feel like 30 miles on my mountain bike is about the same level of effort, even if the elevation gain is equivalent.

I'm off to Amsterdam on Saturday so I'm doubtful I'll get any riding in this week. Maybe an after work ride if I feel like riding in the dark ome day. But surely next week I'll do some biking. Elevation gain will definitely be very little though over there.
I would not have ridden the day after your big ride.
That was definitely a first for me. Usually I take a couple days rest after any longer road ride. But I guess since I was on a trip it was time for an exception. Thankfully skiing and biking muscles are different enough that I was even able to ride at all after two hard days of open to close skiing. That second bike ride at least had most of the day to rest beforehand.

I'm fearful that I would break if I rode that much every day. But then it occurs to me that participants on the annual Ride the Rockies tour do 50-100 miles with 4000-7000 feet of climbing every day for six days. Maybe you'll motivate me to do more.
-
@vincentmalamute I've noticed with multi day things that it's day 2 that sucks the most and then it becomes routine after that for a while. Now of course that's assuming you eat and sleep well and stay hydrated. You mess any of those up and the house of cards collapses. I know after day 3 sleep comes super easy for me whereas normally it takes me a while to fall asleep.
-
@wrong-wheel-drive That jibes with my friend who does the Ride to Rockies every year. In his case, he feels bad for three days, then he's used to it. He takes longer probably because we're both three decades older than you.
It would very difficult for me but I could do a century now I'm sure. But I don't have the confidence that I'll be able to handle the long distance plus elevation gains every day to do the Ride the Rockies yet.

The trails I ride is one maximum interval after the other with my heart rate hitting near 180. I don't or can't do anything like that road riding, maybe max HR or 150-160
