How much milk can you car carry?
-
I sold my house and am buying a minivan to travel around a bit. With used cars increasing in price and new car MSRP only rising a little I think it makes sense to buy a new minivan (some dealers have $2,500 market adjustments on minivans so I have to travel about 25 miles). In my area it will be easier to get a Pacifica and I kinda like it better than the Honda Odyssey because the Pacifica has stow and go second floor seats so my doggo can comfortably hang out behind the rear seats.
I chatted with a dealer yesterday and they told me if I put an order in now it will be delivered as a 2022 model year which is better than buying an off the lot (if you can find one) 2021 just for resale value down the line.
The 2022 build configurator is not up yet so I was reading a Stellantis press release to get a bit more info. I plan to get a Touring-L trim level but for the higher trim Pinnacle Stellantis included this odd cargo measurement-"Pinnacle model offers best-in-class total storage of 227.6 liters – enough to store 60 gallons of milk"
https://media.stellantisnorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=22922&mid=
On an additional note they reduced the exterior colors from 10 free ones to Black, White and Grey free. The Silver Billet I liked on the 2021 is now replaced by Silver Mist (haven't seen this in real life yet) and costs $95.

@66p1800inpieces can I put milk in external jerry cans?
-
@carsoffortlangley red for gas, yellow for diesel and white for milk
-
-
@carsoffortlangley I feel like you'd end up making butter

That’s a great sorry. I remember reading it in the magazine.
-
Based on weight the Quest can hold about 150 gallons
-
@rusty-vandura dang! That was interesting!
-
@66p1800inpieces the X3 has 214 US gallons of space with the 2nd in place and 469 US gallons with the 2nd row down.
I might need to rethink my vehicle usage.

One Milk.
-
@ttyymmnn It is one of a couple of my absolute favorites.
-
@sn4cktimes Isn't that a great story?
-
@pyroholtz Read this. Then recalculate.
-
@66p1800inpieces I would call a few dealers: for Jeeps, admittedly probably a more popular factory order than a minivan, some dealerships do such a quantity of orders they can offer below-invoice pricing. I saved about 10% off MSRP.

Perhaps back when there was still a Tailhook Fraternity.

That and the P-3 story.

And the fist. You dug that story out for me once. Think you could again?

Fist?

Supposedly my Civic would have room for 365 litres of milk. Although less than that because I carry a full size spare.
-
Theres a joke I once heard about the Pontiac Solstice that you can fit a 2-4 of beer in the trunk, if you pour it in...
Does the Pacifica plug in hybrid have an electric climate control system? cos that might be a reason to look at one. I read a Chevy Volt forum post about how its possible to plug the car in at a campsites or wherever and run the heat/ac all night (provided they wrap the shifter release trigger with a rubber band to prevent it timing out. Which would be incredibly handy if you plan to camp in it year round.

@66p1800inpieces Are bags an acceptable way to measure this?
-
@66p1800inpieces My car's cargo capacity with the rear seats down is 1034 liters. That would be ~273 gallons, assuming the milk is stored nicely (I'm thinking bags), plus whatever could fit in the passenger seat. But we have problem, the density of milk is apparently around 1.03kg/l which means we are talking about 2348lbs of milk (plus packaging weight). Even before we consider that I am fat, this is significantly over my car's maximum weight, which is listed at 890 lbs. If we subtract 250 for me, that leaves 640 for milk. That leaves capacity for about 74 gallons of milk.
But wait! According to Volvo, without trailer brakes, I can tow 750kg or 1653 pounds (probably not at the same time as carrying 890 pounds in the cabin). If we sayu I'm using a cheap ~300lb trailer, that gives me 1353lbs for milk/packaging. That would let me carry roughly 157 gallons on a trailer.
-
My F-250 has a GVWR of 8800 lbs. Curb weight is ~4700 lbs. That leaves me with 4100 lbs of payload capacity. -200 lbs for driver, and that's 3900 lbs. 3900/8.6 lbs per gallon of milk = ~453 gallons of milk
-
@carsoffortlangley Legal move. No trailers! Also bonus points for keeping it in the family.
