Bodyshop lug bolts overtight
-
Swapped wheels today for autocross, and was shocked (shocked!) to find that the bodyshop tightened the lug bolts on the wheel they replaced too much for me.
Good thing I remembered to use my floor jack handle as a breaker bar.
I also realized that the door hinge there doesn't operate smoothly. And the suspension arm (can't remember the proper name) somehow has red overspray on it. Going to have to hit that with some black on Sunday when I swap back.

@limitedtimeonly this shit is why I write down the torque spec for the tire shop and monitor them when they do the bolts.
-
This is a pet peeve of mine. I’ve been checking and re-tightening my lugs after tire rotations ever since I ended up with warped brake rotors one time a few cars back. I always ask that they hand tighten them, and they never do. Almost always 50-100 ft/lb over spec.

@limitedtimeonly VW dealer did that to my GTI once. I took it back and made them retorque them properly.

I used to work at a dealer and the techs for sure sent every single lugnut home with a crazy powerful gun. I've never let anyone put wheels on my car but me.
-
@limitedtimeonly Hit it with an impact!
-
@italianjobr53 If this hasn't worked, I would have had to go find an impact.
-
@limitedtimeonly I've never actually used a breaker bar before, I just go hit em with the gun always.

I bet they thought "man...this guy showed us."
