My student told me on Monday that her mother would be making tamales and brought me two today. They had a strip of moderately hot jalapeño un poco de queso.

Underneath is sausage of wild boar and grilled peppers -- including jalapeños -- and a bit of rice. Yumminess.

@rusty-vandura Free homemade tamales are the best ones. Second best are the homemade ones a guy sells out of a cooler in front of the train station

@rusty-vandura Since the end of 2019, I'm living in Houston again for the first time in 14 years, and I finally just the other day had the chance to buy tamales from a guy selling them in packs of 12 wrapped in aluminum foil out of an Igloo cooler. Which is, by my estimation, the only way to buy good tamales in Houston.
