Operation Christmas Child
I volunteered with Operation Christmas Child for 5 hours yesterday. I'd highly recommend it. It was very rewarding work and I got to see a few friends that came along that I haven't seen in a while. It was an all around good time and you really get the feeling you are making a difference. The sheer number of boxes I taped up and sent along the line in that time was staggering. I bet I averaged a box every 10 seconds.
If you are feeling down leading up to Christmas, I'd highly recommend taking your family to volunteer. It is incredibly rewarding work and a ton of fun to boot. They had good social distancing precautions and I felt very safe and masks were required.
For those that don't know, Samaritan's Purse every year runs a program that allows people to pack a shoebox with gifts to send to children that otherwise wouldn't receive anything for Christmas. Most of the boxes we packed were going to Burkini Faso at that time but they are distributed in countries all over the world.
Also, I got through fall freshman semester of college! Submitted my last project at 7 AM yesterday morning. No, I didn't wake up early, I stayed up late and am still feeling its effects.

@exage03040 I can promise you no Christmas Children were packed. The boxes are for them, but not in that way.
My usual pre-pandemic charity work is out of the cards as it deals with the homeless but I still very much enjoyed this.

Congrats on finishing step one of college!

Sounds like working for Amazon. Except for the part you're doing something good for others and not just helping a billionaire make more money.
@vincentmalamute You're more motivated to keep up the pace when you're working to help people in need rather than get Karen her scented candles a day early.

I did this once too with an old buddy of mine and I couldn't agree more. It was a ton of fun just to hang with him and put together the packages (I think I was on tape duty, though it was a while ago).
Congrats on college! You're an 8th of the way there... sounds bleak when I say it like that, but treat yourself this holiday season.
@taylor-martin actually 1/12 if I want to pursue a master's. At least I'm off the hook for a while longer.
