Anyone know what this "Atom feed" thing is about?

Jalopnik's farewell article the other day mentioned it as a backup utility but so far I haven't seen any other mention of how to access it.

@essextee I don't, but I'm curious about it. I'd like to see if it provides a better product than the other methods.

@essextee zero details have been provided on it other than that mention in his post. I emailed and asked for more info yesterday - nothing yet.

@essextee I've done some digging. An Atom feed is similar to an RSS feed. If you have an RSS feed reader, you can point it to https://kinja.com/YOURUSERNAME and gain access to the Atom feed.

There are extensions for Chrome and standalone readers. I've tried a couple of the Chrome extensions - one cost money to get decent features, the other has a confusing interface, so I'm not sure what to do with it just yet.

Some of the standalone readers require you to install a database like SQL Lite. They use the database to store the articles and the associated assets like photos. Here's a list of some free ones someone compiled: https://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/offline-news-feed-readers.shtml

I'm planning to try out a few to see what I can get.

So far, bad luck. The feed works fine for oppositelock.kinja.com, but doesn't work for personal blogs.

I hope we can save most of the posts....there are some really good ones out there. @Borsuq's overview on his FIAT 126p is one of my personal favorites....
