Belated Thanksgiving Post
Really belated, I am sorry.
I just had to show you two birds with something stuffed up their butts
I've had a handful of Thanksgivings away from the family due to football in the past, but this one was a little different. The missus, on the other hand, hasn't missed one yet. This was OUR first Thanksgiving together. To be honest, I was not upset. Although Covid was the main reason we didn't travel and gather, I wasn't ready to be around my family just yet.
A quick recap, I currently am not in good standing with my folks. To be short, the folks want me to move "home" to Chicago, and they still try to have control in some of the decisions I make in life. I wrote a lengthy post about it back on Kinja, so I won't go in to detail.
I'm currently seeing a therapist about the issues, and I just am not ready to be around them at the moment. I know things won't change if I visit home now. The same reciprocal conversations will be had. So until I figure out how to deal with that, I don't see myself heading to Chicago any time soon. As weird as this sounds, Covid has kind of helped me in this situation.
The cornish hens were immaculate. The rub was a buttery lime spice that was so good I made it for my next week's meals.
Wow those look amazing! are they on beer cans? When Roasting, are those cans full to add moisture/flavor? Buttery lime sounds like a good spice, and that's just another type of tasty leftovers!
Sorry to hear about your family issues, those always get tricky. Glad you're in therapy, and glad you got to spend Thanksgiving with the Missus. It's nice to just be still sometimes.
@misterbuttercup Pour about half the beer out of the can (I drank it instead), then after your roast them, pour whatever is left in to a bowl and add butter, spices, lime, and whatnot to make the sauce. It was mouthwatering.

I remember your Kinja post. Glad you’re doing the right things to move forward.
@i86hotdogs I will have to do that, that sounds amazing! I was glad that we had plenty of drippings from our Turkey Breast to make the gravy this year, I wasn't going to be concerned with the making it, but then I realized how much I like the flavors it adds to... well everything, really.
and drinking the beer goes without question!

@i86hotdogs great birds! And it sounds like you have made some positive steps for yourself around your parent situation.
here's the recipe I used

@i86hotdogs I saw your post on Kinja, and I'm sorry you have those family issues. That has to be very rough; hopefully things change and you can have a good relationship with them soon.
I'm actually taking my fiancee to my parents tomorrow for the weekend. With residency, she hasn't been able to join me in visiting my parents since May.

@i86hotdogs Having seen that, we will now be having
game hens for Christmas.

There was an Oppo Cookbook a while ago, you ought to post those beautiful birds there. Sorry to hear about your family, but it sounds like you need time to spread your wings and fly. Always here to chat if you need it pal.
@i86hotdogs Thank you!
@taylor-martin I would buy the heck out of an Oppo Cookbook. Might be the first book I ever purchase. Thank you for the support. I know I can't change them, so I have to find the courage to cut the cord myself
