This is how Mercedes made clearance for the front halfshafts on the AWD W124. It's just so... janky. I'd expect this from British Leyland but Mercedes?

Yep, it's right up there with the Trailblazers that have the front drivershafts through the oil pan. Necessity is the mother of all dumb engineering.

How did you add your thumbnail? Looks like it's broken.

British Leyland would have just attached the spring to the halfshaft with a pillow block to derotate.

This, however, is an EXTREMELY German solution.

Ever seen the oil pan of an E30 325iX?

                  Ugh, those trailblazer/rainier/9-7/envoys.

My wife has a rainier that spun a bearing. Upon discovering the driveshaft situation, it's been sitting since 2018.
I should post and see if anyone wants it...

@derpwagon I would have been interested right up until I learned that THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT GOES THROUGH THE OIL PAN.

                      Right?

I'll probably just list it for cheap as a mechanic's special on craigslist and see if I can get 1500 for it.

Looks more like a Roadkill solution.

@derpwagon Good luck. People who drive them love them, but can never seem to sell em.
