Hauling ass: framers don't mess around
-
15 days ago i had a poured foundation finished. Now we're looking at doors and windows next week. Amazing.
-
Nice! They have an ETA for completion? Be sure to inspect during each step, found some interesting things in my cousin's house that they had to fight out.

@bbg2d haven't asked after this progress. Originally feb/mar. Not sure if this progress actually helps us, you know? If electrician is scheduled out regardless, we might not be able to move the next steps up just because we got through this one with perfect timing.
We got scheduled inspections as per our contract, one when framing is done. And our county inspects regularly as well. But i should take an independent walkthrough once the stairs are in and i can upstairs easy

@forsweden
Not in dairy so much.... -
@cé-hé-sin I stand in solidarity with the lactose intolerant against dairy
-
@cash-rewards Told ya, didn't I?
One piece of info I give to all new build owners - walk the whole house and record/take photos of all the walls, studs, water/power lines and AC ducts. They hide them in the weirdest places sometimes, and you don't want to drill or hammer into them 5 years down the road.
-
@forsweden fyi, aged cheese is lactose free
-
@cash-rewards That's the fastest part of building a house. It's always so impressive when all of a sudden there's a house where there was just an open plot not long before. Then comes all of the interior work which seems to drag on and on.

@pos_camaro absolutely. We drive past on our way to and from our kids' school, and its been fun seeing the changes. But that's all going to stop when they move to plumbing/hvac/insulation
-
@musashi66 you did! This is fast even for our area, though. Two crews at a time some days. I'm not complaining. Our foreman gets things done, my wife and i stop by with eater and snacks for the workers. Seems like it works.
And that's a real solid piece of advice. Thanks!
-
@cash-rewards It's great to see the project moving ahead at this stage, though. It gives you the energy to get through all of the inevitable bumps ahead.
-
@cash-rewards My municipality was letting a few builders have in-house inspectors who just submitted paperwork. Guess whose houses got borked in the big quake?
Glad to hear your County doesn't farm that stuff out.
-
@bbg2d someone here had an anecdote about houses after hurricane Andrew, where some builder had a disproportionately high percentage of houses that survived. Turns out he was the one who followed code to the letter and never filed paperwork for exceptions or variances. Code works (sometimes)!
-
@cash-rewards Great to see progress, I am a little concerned about the living space to car space ratio. Whatever you allocated to garage, you will wish you did more. Or perhaps the doors are entry to a full floor of Auto-rama style display space?

@cash-rewards
You need to give their contact info to our poor friend @MidEngine -

A mate's new three bedroom brick veneer single storey is going up closer to town. The slab was poured early September. It was finished to lock up stage (all bricks, roofing and windows in place) a fortnight ago. The house is currently being fitted out... -
@glemon we desperately wanted three car garage, but it just couldn't happen. We pushed until the architect said fine and drew it up and showed us. She was right. It just didn't work with kur lot's setbacks and easements.
-
@cash-rewards did you at least get deeper bays than standard? Blows my mind how small a normal garage bay is these days, my BiL's truck barely fits most and mine has to have a taller than average door...
-
When I did construction, three of us framed a smallish (about 36' square) house in a day. The next day the trusses were set, and we did the roof the next. Overall in a week it went from the sill plate on the tops of the basement walls to the shell of a house.
-
@bbg2d yeah, for sure. We also have to contend with a 25% lot coverage maximum in our town, so you got to choose between a 10x10 shed or another 100 sqft of house for each level. So you have to make up the loss of storage in the garage. So many bouses in the neighborhood have the garage as a shed and the cars on the driveway.
-
meanwhile i've been framing this damn thing since july
-
@classicdatsundebate It's been a chore for sure. We're moving into the house on the 30th.. finally
