Winter wheels are ready

After I put these away in a snow storm, they were never cleaned. I could give you any number of reasons, but let’s face it: I’m lazy. Anyway, they’re clean now and drying in the sun, ready for installation on Friday.

@cb Is this a humblebrag? Because the only time my winter (or lets face it, any) wheels get cleaned is if I wash the car while they're on it

Is this a salt concern thing? This winter is the first time I'm going to have to worry about such things...so maybe I should remember this too if so. I was in PNW (Portland) before where winter just meant rain/really cold most of the time and never salt...so I probably could've done without them if I wanted to.

@cb Mine are ready also...but they are already on the Suburban.

They also happen to be the same as my summer wheels and tires. And they are definitely dirtier than those.

They did get a "winter" test this year in the Great Texas Freeze of 2021. Depending on weather conditions they will get another test when we drive to Breckenridge the week before Christmas.

@cb My snow tire wheels look like absolute poo. The coating has started to flake off, am considering some spray paint or plasti dip and just send it for another year or two.

@cb GTA people need to figure out that AWD doesn't make them stop faster. I watched an X5 do a lovely pirouette on the 407 a few seasons ago. That was fun.

@cb your winter wheels are definitely the ones I want but because I'm cheap and this year has been crazy expensive I just bought the first half decent looking used set with nearly new tires I could find.

Canadians in general need to be forced with PSAs that Winter Tires begin to outperform All Seasons at 7C and below, not just in the damn snow and below freezing.

I think by mid November the whole country should be on winter rated tires until the start of March.

@cb Winter wheel aspirations right there. I need to paint the Caprice's steelies to get it ready... not required, but a strong want. I also need new tires, because it looks someone did a burnout on these...
