Would you be on to bid on this?

Asking for a friend...
Also paging @AMGtechEngine bay does not look inviting. Where is the other half of the engine?
-
@snakesm13 the guy I bought my S3 from had to sell it because he had an unexpected 3rd kid. I told him he should buy one.
-
@notsomethingstructural what, was he a jerk to you or something?
"Hey, fuck you!"
"Oh yeah? Why don't you go buy a R63? "
"Why doesn't your mom go buy an R63? "
-someone gets stabbed
-NSS gets an S3 -
@snakesm13 The head bolts appear to be done as a favour, but not detailed on the work order. Promise!

@snakesm13 -
As I recall, engine repairs total about $10-12k, and internal engine failures were incredibly common around 7000 miles. I think @AMGtech had a thread on old Oppo where he fixed one.EDIT: wrong, wrong, wrong, all of my info was wrong
-
@snakesm13 I know @AMGtech hates this thread but it's all I think about when I see one of these.

Instead of forking over the insane dollar amount to fix his precious unicorn, mazdeuce decided to buy a lift and do it himself..
Sounds like he was looking for an excuse to buy a lift.
One of us! One of us! -
That's hilarious. He probably spent more than $57,000 when you factor in what his time is worth.
I understand some things are expensive as all hell to repair, but when it's done in 3-5 days instead of 8 months, the "parts cost" is made up for in time. And he still has a leak, and no warranty.
-
@someoneatacura @AMGtech also says he does some stuff wrong too. I wonder how it's running today.

@snakesm13 here’s the real problem
It looks like an old Pacifica. -
@snakesm13 There's a reason why @AMGtech has an R500 instead of this.

Because he's a calculated risk taker - BORING!
He's going to have so many notifications from this one topic.

I remember this thread. It was a good read.
No it isn't. Fuck the idiots involved with it.

The reasons are actually initial buy
-in and rarity. At time of purchase, my R500 cost less than half of an R63 with iffy history, and even then there was only the one for sale. Whereas my R500 has the best service history I've ever seen. It was ownership cost that kept me away from an R63. -
@snakesm13 at that price I would the shit out of that thing, especially with all the common stuff taken care of already. I didn't go over the photos much, but if it's nice, final price might end up around $40-50k.
Checking the head bolts is a simple matter of popping off a valve cover. Takes 15 minutes for me. But honestly, they're easy, so even if the seller is mistaken about the bolts, I wouldn't worry about it and just do them. $2k is about right if they haven't failed.
Coincidentally, I'm doing head bolts, cams, and lifters on an S63 right now

I fix a few of these every year still. Used to do more. I've personally never seen failed head bolts kill one of these engines. The bottom ends are extremely robust. The low mileage internal failure was not related to head bolts or cams, it was a timing chain idler sprocket. Head bolts alone, without failure, are around $2k, cams and lifters are $5-6k, and adjusters are maybe another $2k; so yeah about $10k for bolts, cams, lifters, adjusters.

@amgtech Oh, I guess I should have clarified. Good as in entertaining... not good as in, uh, Good. I remember it was some stay at home dad who's rich wife let him buy all sorts of dumb shit.
-
@cash-rewards lol this is way more dramatic than how it actually went down:
“Why are you selling?”
“Had a 3rd surprise kid and I can’t get 3 child seats in it anymore”
“Ok I’ll take it”
“Cool, if you think of a fun weekend car that comfortably sits 3 child seats HMU”
“You should get a R63 AMG”
“Word, I’ll check that out”
“...or yo momma should” -
False. All broken not running cars sound the same.
