OPPO Bond: Too Much Time to Die Review
-
The movie is 2.5 hrs long. Daniel Craig looks old. Lea Seydoux looks bored and sleepy. Plot is unnecessarily convoluted. Would not watch again. Plus, we had a group of 8 and got tickets with assigned seating. Some grandma and her son were in our seats. She refused to move, so we sat somewhere else.
-
@krustywantout I can't recommend arm barring a grandmother, but I can say that I'd understand.
-
@krustywantout all the theaters in my area switched to assigned seating over the last 4 years or so. Not a fan. I'd say I've considered buying multiple seats to avoid sitting by random people, but the truth is that I just don't go to theaters anymore. Netflix/Hulu can have my money instead
-
@cb The problem is, we move somewhere else and move into someone else's seats and then we look like the dicks and have to move again. There were two of them, go sit in the seats you were assigned to!
-
@krustywantout and Big-Movie wonders why I'm willing to wait for movies to come to streaming services.
I don't mind spending $20 on a new release at home vs $60 to take my family to a theater and actively dislike a movie. -
@krustywantout
Still gonna watch it, but not in a theatre with filthy humans around me. I've had to deal with people who don't want to move. I have way more limited seating options than they, and so am less than sympathetic, even to grandmas. -
@krustywantout Were the stunts good at least? might watch it for just that... and Ana De Armas
-
@Chariotoflove Totally agree! I hate it when people crowd around or obstruct the accessible areas.
-
@krustywantout movie theatres are exempt from society from the behaviour I’ve seen (last time I went like 6 years ago)
-
@kingt She was really good but short. Stunts were great so I have to say that was a positive. But a big letdown compared to Skyfall and Spectre.
-
@aestheticsinmotion I like assigned seating so I know where I'm going and have the best view. Our theater is not very busy and I never go on the first week.
-
@krustywantout I bet I haven't been to a movie theater in 5 years.
-
@krustywantout said in OPPO Bond: Too Much Time to Die Review:
Daniel Craig looks old
Daniel Craig looked old in Casino Royale and that was 15 years ago. Like seriously you open with a scene of a "young Bond" before he was 007, and you pick a 38 year old actor and then make him up to look 10 years older?
Also, I don't hate the "Son of Continental" livery United is rocking now, but the 1970s/1980s Tulip livery was so much better.

I've only been to a theater a few times in the last several years, since the assigned seating became a thing. The problem I keep having, is I never fail to be staggered at how fucking LOUD the sound is! I find it very unpleasant.
-
@krustywantout I didn't like the first Daniel Craig Bond, so I've sat the rest of them out. They take themselves too seriously. Bond movies should be at least a little tongue in cheek.
-
@krustywantout bummed to hear that but I’ll still watch it when it goes streaming. Movie theaters sucked before COVID… I have no desire to go back. The last time that I was in a theater was for Ford Vs. Ferrari and that was a family thing over the holiday.
-
@aestheticsinmotion I love assigned seating; at our local multiplex we used to have to line up 40mins-1hr before the start time to get half decent seats for a new release. Then sat through the low res local ads before even getting to the trailers. Now we can just rock up at the start.
-
@zipfuel @Shop-Teacher @krustywantout I love the ads. That was always part of the experience for me. Never had issues like that I'd show up twenty minutes early with a friend, get the best seats, and catch up a bit while waiting for the movie. Nowadays, even on lighter days there's always someone who picks a seat right next to me. And it seems like I have to get a ticket weeks in advance to get good seats anyways.
To be fair, Dune is the only movie in the past few years where I've even considered going to the theater.
-
@facw Yeah, it was kind of suspension of disbelief to see him as a rookie agent, the guy's looked like he's in his 50s for years
-
@shop-teacher I can't argue with that.
-
@aestheticsinmotion The new Dune looks epic.
-
Haven’t been to a movie since Feb last year. Rented the whole damn theater for Dune and invited all my friends and family and made sure we had at least twice the seating and threatened the parents with overkill punishment for disruptive shenanigans. First time I’m seeing most of them since the shit hit the fan last year.
Looking forward to it. Still cheaper than if I’d kept going to the movies all those times. =p
I’ve enjoyed the Craig/Bond era personally but I’ve liked most of his work. I get a kick out of each time he kind of misses a jump or runs into something and is a bit more of a brute. Missed that from the books in the other eras. Fine for moving to the next 007 though and hopefully will enjoy this one more than the our OP.
-
@shop-teacher i saw an interview where they basically admitted Austin Powers screwed that for a while. They were afraid of doing anything that would make them seem like the movies that were spoofing them, so they felt forced to go serious.
-
@cash-rewards Whatever their motivation was, the current direction does not interest me.
-
@shop-teacher Skyfall's worth a look. It did have a bit of humour in it.
