go go gadget...exhaust tip? huh. neat?
-
TL/DR: Ford patented retractable exhaust tips for off-road to improve departure angles.
-
@derp Just exit the exhausts out the hood, or put exhaust stacks in the bed.
-
@derp why not shorter pipes that don't protrude out of the truck ? It's against the regulations, or something ?
-
@darkbrador because aEsThEtiC
-
@darkbrador Yes. Exhaust needs to exit beyond the body of the vehicle (or something like that)
-
@derp A solution in search of a problem. , just cut the pipe on an angle, or don't put it into the departure angle area.
-
@hammerheadfistpunch congratulations on a top-notch zinger over on TD
-
@derp What ever happened to making them turn and exit to the side behind the wheel? Seems a lot easier, cheaper, and more reliable than motorizing an exhaust tip.
-
@frinesi2 On that story? I didn't comment on that story. hmm. Interesting, "KingaRefugee" is aping my style.
-
@derp KISS
-
-
@derp Just the tip(s)
-
Seems like an overly complicated solution compared to tucking the exhaust behind the bumper with the exit pointed down or out the side behind the rear wheels like they used to do on trucks.
-
@darkbrador having the exhaust gases exit under the car/truck rather than out/away from the vehicle is dangerous as the gases can leak into the cabin if not careful
-
@samv8 We're talking pickup truck, the exhaust is under the bed of the truck ...
-
@derp Yay more motorized bullshit under the vehicle where everything rusts faster... and since it's hot exhaust, your rustproofing options are extra-limited!
-
@derp That is stupid.
-
@derp Honda does this on the Ridgeline via the bumper cover and exhaust hangars being designed to allow the exhaust tips to move up behind the bumper at departure angles where they are the limiting factor. Ford's idea seems a lot more complicated.
