@trivet Is the shop going to give it a once over before they put it in, or just bolt it on and hope for the best?
-
@trivet that looks like a transaxle to me. What's it for?

Yes, they'll inspect it before installation. It includes a 6 month warranty, so hopefully this will be a one-time-thing.
-
@frinesi2 It basically is? It's how Subaru designs their AWD transmissions.

I'm using the term transmission generically....
It's for my 2015 WRX.

@flatisflat @trivet I don't know why I said that the way I did but I wasn't being pedantic I was just thinking ... in text?

LOL! No worries, I didn't take it any way but a legitimate question/statement.
I'm not a complete novice when it comes to cars, but transmissions are pure magic and witchcraft to me....
-
@trivet Oh, they're not that particularly witchcrafty, it's literally the number of gear options (so in your gif, 4 for a 4-speed, but 6 for your 6-speed) in pair of gears. The input of the transmission goes to that side shaft, and all the gears are engaged, but free-spinning on the output shaft. All you're doing with the shifter is determining which one of the gears is coupled to the output.
-
@trivet new clutch, throw out bearing and rear main seal while the swap happens? These cars have a reputation of eating the throwout bearing so Iโd do that for sure. Havenโt heard of any rear main seal issues yet but that and the clutch seem like pertinent things to do while itโs all apart.
-
@trivet Oh, nice! Hope everything goes smoothly!
-
@trivet Good luck with the swapping

Yeah, that doesn't sound witchcrafty at all...
-
@daswauto Itโs a Subaru, so itโll burn the oil before it lets the RMS seal leak any
-
@mm54 Right? Everyone knows the fairies live in the diffs.
