Y'all I need some new podcasts
-
I've been finding myself in the car significantly more than ever lately and the two I regularly listen to (Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me & MBMBaM) aren't enough to fill that time every week. I'm mostly looking for comedy shows but anything on the topics of the sciences or engineering or automotive may interest me too. What do you listen to?
(Availability on TuneIn is preferred)

@essextee Freakonomics podcast is pretty cool and Strong Songs is great if you're into music.
-
@essextee pretty much the only podcast I regularly listen to is The Daily from the New York times. I really don't like solely interview format podcasts, I want there to be an interesting narrative to listen to. Their productions are just so high quality and it comes out every single day. Granted its the news though which is often depressing.

@essextee Conan needs a friend.
-
@essextee Dork-O-Motive with Brian Lohnes, Lehto's Law, Smith & Sniff (Richard Porter & Johnny Smith), Radiolab (haven't listened in a while but some old ones are GOOD), and MAYBE F**k Face. The last is a comedy podcast from three Rooster Teeth guys. Not the highest brow, but some high-effort stuff can/does happen.

@essextee Conan O Brien Needs a Friend! It's A+. Not only is it always entertaining (Conan is a pro & can pull good guests), but they follow such a simple, crucial rule: keep it moving & quick. They're almost always 45-60 mins so you don't get bored or too into the weeds. He has a few years' worth of shows, so scroll back and find a comedian guest you like and check it out. Assuming you don't hate Conan, I bet you'll love it.

@essextee I listen almost exclusively to automotive podcasts so unfortunately can't help you with other topics. But if you are interested
-
Everyday Driver and Smoking Tire for the personalities
-
Autoblog and Motorweek for more newsy rundowns and reviews
-
-
@essextee Business Wars and The Dollop.

@essextee lately I’ve been listening to a ton of Lions Led by Donkeys (lefty ex-tank driver talking military history), Behind the Bastards, Well There’s Your Problem (but it’s better on YouTube because sometimes you want the pictures), Lovett or Leave It for something funny, Hardcore History if you’d rather have an audiobook, and my relatively-daily What a Day for a short news roundup.
There’s more. I’m a podcast junkie. -
@houstonrunner +1 on both of those.
-
@essextee I like Overheard at National Geographic, America’s National Parks, See America, and Sawbones.
The first three are probably at least somewhat self explanatory in terms of what they cover. The last is a medical podcast. It’s from one of the hosts of MBMBAM and his doctor wife. They’ve done a lot of current event shows lately, but the older episodes were on medical history including the wacky ideas of how illnesses were diagnosed and treated in the past. -

@essextee Adam Ferrara's podcast is really great. It's both funny and introspective. It's called 30 Minutes You'll Never Get Back, but its actually a very funny hour a week.
-
@essextee All Fantasy Everything is my go to comedy podcast. 3 comedians (often with a guest) fantasy drafting any topic. It's a great format for when MBMBaM is feeling stale.
It's also a group of surprisingly wholesome and supportive people.
-
@essextee If you want a good laugh "My Dad Wrote a Porno" is hilarious. Other than that I'm also curious because I just got caught up on that one and I've got nothing now haha
-
@essextee Hardcore history.
The constant.
American scandal.
Literature and History.
Revisionists History.
Yeah I like history shows.
Edict zero is great if you like science fiction.
We're Alive is a good zombie story but I felt robbed at how it ended.
Also the hobbit and Lotr is on spotify under a unexpected journey by Bilbo Baggins. -
@essextee since it has gone on mentioned, I enjoy the Overcrest podcast. It's tangently automotive but has a lot of history based episodes.
-
@essextee If you like easily digestible economics "Make Me Smart with Kai and Molly" is a fun one from the people who do Marketplace. It's only about 20-30 minutes long but it's on my daily listen list.

Do you like science or science-related podcasts? Radiolab, Invisibilia, Probably Science, Science Vs., Daniel and Jorge Explain the Universe, Nova Now
I can add to @Vondon302's history podcasts. History that Doesn't Suck, Through Line, Scene on Radio
Do you like story telling? The Moth, Snap Judgement, Selected Shorts
There are plenty of others I can recommend. I spend 7 hours a week jogging and another 5 hours a week commuting. That gives me a lot of time to get through podcasts and my feed is huge.
-
Mostly sports related and about 30-45 minutes each, the Jim Rome podcast is pretty good. Not as "inside" as his daily radio show, but with really good guests.
-
@essextee Another vote for Lehto's Law here! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMljRGC0eBJrxbUorWEnasg Steve's videos are frequently car-related, and of manageable lengths, too. Usually under 20 minutes, often closer to 10. He typically posts one or two videos a day.
-
@essextee Marketplace is a daily podcast (about 30 min) How I Built This to get your entrepreneurial juices going and Hidden Brain to understand how you can be better and why people suck. Make Me Smart is good and is Million Bazillion for the OPPO's that have kids and want them to learn about money and business.
-
@essextee I have been listening to the Sloppy Mechanics podcast. I take want to learn how to tune cars and I would like to turbo something so that's my reasoning.
-
@essextee Twenty Thousand Hertz (acoustic sciences), Your Favorite Band Sucks (comedy/music), and Cocaine & Rhinestones (country music history... and I dont even like country all that much).
