Lockdown Sunrises — Day III
5:30 AM. I press the brake, the clutch, and the Engine Start/Stop button and listen to the turbocharged LTG motor’s raspy awakening. It’s as if the Cadillac-sourced engine is clearing its throat before saying a soft “Good morning.” The cold start calms down to an almost imperceptible idle, and we drive off.
I’ve decided I’ll be waking up every morning a bit early for the duration of SoCal’s stay at home order to capture each sunrise. This time of the year sees a lot of cool cloud cover and colors.
With the narrow windows down, we cruise along with the cool, salty California air ever present. It’s a vibe if ever there was one. Dawn is just over the horizon to the east.
As I head toward the coast to find a vantage point, I see the gate to a local trailhead’s parking lot is open. In the sky, little streaks of red light are outlining the clouds. There’s not much time.
At the next stoplight, almost a mile down the long road, I make the call. The turbocharged motor was now warmed up, so I make a U-turn and whoosh back toward the hiking trails. The whistle and hiss of the turbocharger over the hum of the four-cylinder engine are subdued soundtrack to the wave of torque their harmony brings forth.
Having backtracked a mile, we pull into the gravel lot and park. Nobody else seems to have thought to wake up so early. Just me, the car, and the sky all around us.
Having to work fast, I assemble the camera. After a few quick shots of the multicolored blaze that was the morning’s cloud cover, I switch the headlights on and begin.
There are one thousand more words I’ll write here, and they start now:
As a side note, I took a bunch more pictures of the Camaro this morning and might do a bigger post of ‘em if anyone’s interested. Just lemme know.

Brake and clutch to start? Im going to assume this is an electronic parking brake thing.
@milky It won’t start the engine unless you have both the brake pressed and the clutch in. SUPER annoying. I wish it just had a turn-key ignition.

@way2blu Please do. That shot is gorgeous! The deep focus and use of color is fantastic!

Sunrise was spectacular here this morning in Malibu. So glad I was out in time to see it. I decided to just take it in in the moment instead of take pictures though. Although I should check my dash cam, that might have grabbed it decently.
