This afternoon I got around to reinstalling the back seat in the Pajero as an experiment to see if I could finally figure out how to make it do all the things including fold up and forward. I'd never been able to make the latter happen, as the owner's manual pictograms depict the various levers involved but not the order of operations required to make that particular magic happen. I'm sure the text details the requisite order, but I don't read Japanese and it surprisingly isn't as self explanatory as one might expect.

In addition the the usual fold flat and fold up and forward for such a back seat in a truck from the era, this one also reclines, folds flat backwards and slides fore and aft for all kinds of fun. The JDM market must have expected more from their back seats than us Americans. There's lots of levers, and order of operations matters for making different things happen.

I figured it out this afternoon, so the back seat can stay in. The back is a bit dirty from carrying my mountain bike around (back when I could venture into the outside world).

While I was at it I made a friend. This guy (presumably, I didn't inspect it for equipment package) wandered into the garage. His name is Smudge and he lives a few houses down from me. I've seen him wandering around the neighborhood lately. As his tag indicates, he is indeed very friendly. He was very interested in checking out the Pajero with all its doors open, but I declined his interest in a ride and we settled for pets. I applaud his interest in imported Japanese market off-roaders, though.

@ita97 I've always loved the way a lot of JDM vehicles have super practical back seats that fold like that...some Euro stuff has them too!

Smudge is a cute Little critter! 😄

@ITA97 Hmmm... you'll be pleased or unsurprised to know that Oz spec seats were like this too. As for Smudge...cool cat but around here he'd perhaps end up like his namesake. I'm currently on the hunt for a couple of his distant relatives that have gone feral on our block...

Just checked to see if my preferred floor mat vendor could help you out with a back mat, but no love. (I just guessed on the year) Hope your health is holding up! 5e319ac6-d5bb-4b9b-92db-4c53bcc22d7f-image.png
