Do you ever wonder if...
-
...the fender flares you see on the backs of dually pickup trucks could be fitted to the front as well? Then increase the front track width, lower the suspension, add some tuner-y rims with wide tires, and boom. Widebody muscle truck.
If I were to do this to the truck pictured, I'd also want to make the rims the same red color as the lower body. Maybe shave the bumpers as well. Otherwise, leave it stock on the outside. Not sure what exact engine I'd want in it, but since it's a Dodge let's say a Hemi. For some reason I really like this idea

@awesomeaustinv With a sawzall and welder, anything is possible.
-
@cb The best part is, I don't think it would even require that much sawzalling and welding. The side profile looks pretty consistent front to back, so I would assume they would fit the front pretty well. I must admit I'm not sure how those fender flares are actually attached, although I assume they're bolted to an otherwise stock bed, in which case I imagine installing them on the front could be as simple as drilling new holes. Minimum hackery.
-
Good idea. I think you should model it with lego first and post it here.
-
"How many wheel spacers would you like?"
"yes"
-
@awesomeaustinv It looks like they don't need the extra width.
-
@awesomeaustinv I mean...
-
@bicyclebuck I unabashedly love this.
-
@bicyclebuck Yes, but the extra width is there for the taking!
-
@nth256 That's pretty close to what I'm envisioning, but I don't think they actually used dually fender flares. Hoonitruck is still never not awesome.
-
@awesomeaustinv Ah, good point, I didn't pick up that distinction. The boxiness of the dually fenders would, honestly, look pretty badass, i think!
-
@nth256 Kinda like the box flares you see on old rally cars, but for trucks! A more muscular take on the fender flare. I'm honestly surprised that no one seems to have done it before.
-
@awesomeaustinv I have not thought about that ... but I do like where your head is at here. I have always wanted to build a stupid mid-engine road racing truck. That could take the stupid to a whole 'nother level!
-
@shop-teacher Ever seen Roadkill's Mazdarati? Old Mazda rotary pickup, but with the rotary removed and an Oldsmobile Toronado drivetrain installed in the rear. One of their most unique and interesting builds, until it was tragically stolen off of a trailer.

@awesomeaustinv Make this happen!!!
-
@awesomeaustinv Oh yeah, I've seen every episode of Roadkill, and some many times. That was such a weird vehicle to steal. I can only assume its been scrapped by now.
-
@shop-teacher I like to imagine that some rich, morally questionable weirdo paid someone to steal it because they want THE Mazdarati, not just some replica! Or perhaps it was a group of ragtag rotary enthusiasts attempting to save the rare rotary truck from those evil Roadkill car butchers... But yeah, it's probably a bunch of tin cans now.
-
@awesomeaustinv I love those thoughts, but it was probably scrapped to buy some meth.
-
@cb just use some bondo and tape.
