It's Friday, Oppo

Almost time for a cold one.
I say "almost" because I have to go play for a wedding this evening. So the beers will have to be later, while this post is earlier.
As for plans, our high school band is hosting a big competition tomorrow for Bands of America. We provide all the volunteers, and the band collects all the parking money and a share of the concessions. It's our biggest fund raiser. I'll be working the stadium for the first half of the day, making sure people don't walk across the stands during a performance, then working concessions in the afternoon. Not a fan of slinging hot dogs and Cokes, but it needs to be done.
Y'all have a great weekend. Oh, and BTW, while "Fidelio" was a beer, it was also an opera by Beethoven.

@ttyymmnn I have faintly nostalgic memories of selling milkshakes at drag races in high school; I suspect I’m only nostalgic because I can’t really remember how loud and hot and uncomfortable it was.
-
@ttyymmnn I will be beering shortly after work. It's typically a good Friday gameplan.

@ttyymmnn
State Fair of Texas starts today with students day. For all y'all that aren't in the Lone Star State (around Dallas), students get off school and a free pass to the Fair on the first day. My daughter and most of her sophomore class met up promptly at opening this morning and will be roaming the fair grounds like a street gang until at least sundown. Ima be chillin' at home with the wife on my first Friday home in over a month. It's nice to have my kid at an age where I no longer have to take her to the Fair myself. She likes the rides and games. I like the museums and exhibits and animals. We always had fun, but there was always compromise. -
@ttyymmnn You need a hot dog hat or full hot dog suit for slinging hot dogs!
I have to run by the parts store to grab a window switch that might work on the truck and some clean buckets. Hoping to make this a cleaning weekend. Subaru is super dirty, house is super dirty, truck will forever be dirty. I have meaning to do it past weekends but other things or weather keep getting in the way.

@chariotoflove Grew up in Texas and have never heard of this. Just checked and I'm guessing this is more a Dallas thing...?
-
@ttyymmnn I've got 7 on 7 football tonight with my boys. It is only week two, so I expect lots of dropped passes, horrible coverage, and long TD's on both sides. Hopefully I don't have to do anything but spectate, I've had a busy and rough week. Beers will be had as soon as we get home from the game....

I'm sure it is. You'd have to be fairly local to take advantage of it. I'll add that for clarity.

I've got one away at college and two who are sophomores. I am enjoying the band rehearsal days where they stay at school until 7:30. My wife is still WFH, so it's some nice quiet time together. And when we are at games or whatever, they are now able to fend for themselves. It's nice. I'm sure your daughter will have a blast. Walking the fair with a gaggle of friends sound like fun.
-
@chariotoflove Haha! No worries; I was just wondering if this was just more about my youth I had forgotten.
-
@ttyymmnn fresh hop season
-
@ttyymmnn Looking at the history of Fidelio, it's no wonder it isn't around today, that company seemed to change names and totally rebrand itself every 20 years or so, you cant build long term customer loyalty like that

I remember those days! Concessions were a big fund raiser for our band. We also sold chocolate bars. I'm not sure what made us more money, but my senior year, we bought all new uniforms and the entire band went to Daytona Beach to march in some parade. The band took a big trip like that every four years.
