Some of us up north have to stay busy in those long snowy winters. Some of us with lesser intelligence choose to stay busy riding snowmobiles. But these things suck. Especially mine. Mine fried its ECU last year, tends to overheat when not ridden in anger and in deep snow, but no too deep, eh, otherwise it gets stuck in that deep snow. But that's ok, since I'm a cheapstake, mine is a $500 sled, that's also older than most of you youts here. Battle proven, loud and proud, in all its resplendescent early 90s cheesy colors. In other words, rad.

One of the issue with rad cheesy sleds, if you look closely to this period-correct illustration, is the riding position ...

... somewhere between riding a harley (that was dropped to let the old guy, who recently had a double hip replacement, throw a leg over the bike) and a squatty potty. It's comfortable only at a complete stop, and doesn't provide much control when the thing bounces on bumps and jumps and frozen carcasses of other winter sports enthusiasts.

More modern models have more of a motorcycle-like / sit-up position, but these modern models are way too expensive for the use I have of it, (remember I'm a cheapstake), and also where is the fun in throwing $$ at a problem to fix it ? Something had to be done.

Enters the fleebay, with a brand new seat from a modern sled, purchased for song. Mock up time :

Let's salvage some tubing from an old motorcycle frame build, crank up the welder, et voila ...

No holes drilled into the poor thing, just using the existing ones. My workmanship is poor, but I have principles. Goodbye squatty potty. Bonjour proper seating position.

Next, the handlebars. But that's a story for another day.

@sn4cktimes Right, now I can carry a yard of firewood, to stay warm when the thing inevitably breaks down.

@darkbrador you could also carry a chainsaw to cut some trees. But wood that’ll light easily is probably more worth it.

@mastermario That's the security guard. He also holds the cleaning tools.
