Screen Shot 2021-09-24 at 7.16.12 AM.png Hi folks, every now and then a weird or random automotive question pops into my head so I started jotting them down with the intention of doing a little recurring bit here. To get us started, I recently saw not one, or 2, but 6 Toyota Mirais during the course of the day. It is possible I saw one of them twice, but for certain there were at least 5 distinct examples driving around me that day (including the new one).

So it begs the question: What uncommon car is strangely common in your area? For example, besides the aforementioned hydrogen boondoggle, there are quite a few original Audi Allroads around my neighborhood (at least 4 or 5 I can even walk to from my house). So what rare car do see a lot of?

Not sure if it's "uncommon" but before moving to WV I saw virtually none of these.

Some journalist told me about this site. Now I own three cars.

@ermahgerd I know I had an even better candidate for this recently, but I can't remember what it was. So, I'll have to say "Suzuki Samurai".

@taylor-martin Definitely counts. I think at this point all Suzukis on 4 wheels are getting pretty uncommon.

@ermahgerd I could find a PT cruiser pretty quickly in my area I bet.

So are they always within walking distance because they broke down and the owners abandoned them?

@ermahgerd there's also Mercedes W123s, which for some reason seem to outnumber anything else '80s in this neck of the woods by an order of magnitude - other than maybe GM A-bodies.

OK, so three of the driving ones I see regularly belong to members of my family, but even outside that I see a couple a week.

@ermahgerd Like @Taylor-Martin said, the SX4 is curiously common around here in Berks Co., PA. Curiously, the county also has a relatively large number of Kizashis on the roads.

@ibrad There are actually 2 on my block (same owner). The weird part is I live in a very wealthy part of the world, so finding old Allroads and PT cruisers is even weirder.

Although, there being enough people who can actually to afford to keep the Allroads running might actually make sense.

@qaaaaa Not only do they all run, but they are all daily drivers, AND not one of them is sitting on bad suspension (expect one which was intentionally lowered and tuned, so now it looks like an S6 Avant with body cladding)

@ermahgerd Porsche GT3's. As common as a cavalier here. In fact, there are no less than 3 of them in my own 'hood. On any given day, (during the summer) I will see about 8-10 different ones. Also the Brabus version of the Mercedes G500. There are two of them at my work.

                                  89' E30, 82' E21, Thrustmaster t300rs. Slow in, fast out.

I’ve got 2 Allroads on my walking route. I also have 2 CJ’s and 2 E65’s within walking distance. On of the E65’s has newspaper wadded up along the dash to, apparently, soak up the windshield leaks. It also has a piece of cedar bow strategically covering the expired insurance sticker. This is a fairly affluent area.

I've yet to see either one of those in real life. I never even knew about the 9-4 until Oppo.

@ermahgerd They may not strictly be "rare" but I see a TON of last gen Accord coupes in proportion to sedans.

Also, the slab side Impala isn't too uncommon but they're all donks.

@ermahgerd for some reason there are multiple RX8s and Chrysler Aspens that I see at the intersection next to my house on a regular basis. At least two of each… must be a glitch.
