Holy camber batman
-
Was walking around the new Saab today and I noticed the rear wheels looked a bit funny.
Yup, that's... a bit out of spec I'd say. Looks like I'll be ordering some camber adjustment shims soon
-
@black-villain The Saab is telling you it wants to be Hellaflush'd
-
@black-villain Drift machine!
-
@black-villain Probably check for dead bodies in the trunk.
-
@black-villain I think I’d have a good look at the bushings in the rear suspension. If the rubber is worn it can cause all sorts of alignment problems.
-
@junklemkvii yeah that's what I thought as well. However, they're all... Suspiciously new? The car also rides fine without any clunks or looseness
-
@black-villain Hmm, that is odd. Did you give any a pry with a pry bar? I would have put good money on a bushing being bad somewhere. I’m not familiar with Saab’s at all to have any other insights. I assume the shims exist because this is a known issue.
-
@junklemkvii The rear suspension setup on the ng900 is pretty much just a beam axle. The only real bushing on them is at the front of the trailing arm where they attach to the body, and those are both crack-free and play free. Yeah, the shims exist to counteract (or add) the negative camber because there really is no other way to adjust camber or toe on the rear of the car.
I'm going to take it to an alignment guy this weekend just to see how far out the rear is, because you're only "supposed" to use a certain number of shims. If it's outside of that range, the rear axle is probably bent, common problem with them, and I would say even likely judging by the fact that all the wheels were bent when I got it. If that's the case.... Do the old Saab trick of jacking it up by the rear axle to bend it outwards and shim it as close as possible?
-
@black-villain Ahh got it. I had it in my head that it was some sort of multi link setup.

@black-villain
I approve this purchase. I especially like the color. Is the rear camber actually adjustable on these? I had mine checked when I got it last year end it actually wasn’t too far off spec.
-
@britsnswedes-was-minigti yes, there are shims that mount behind that hub that can adjust the camber. If you look in the WIS, factory spec changed a couple of times and there's even a TSB camber change under the advisory tab in the WIS. GS and a lot of forum people recommend -1.0 on the rear for best tire wear and handling
