Pretty cool trailer to increase payload.

@italia I wonder how it is to drive over rough roads. Plus, it seems like that hitch is getting stressed quite a bit more than it might be designed for.

What we obtain too cheaply we esteem too lightly.

@italia " In a perfect world, home-improvement stores would offer load-divider dollies for rent and require their use before knowingly allowing schmoes like me to overload their trucks."

It's really neat, but I don't see a regular person ever needing it enough to justify the price. An occasional rental though, that I could see.

It increases payload, but how to you place a pallet into the bed of the truck with that little dolly in the way? Can it be added post-loading but before driving?

Never discount the possibility that you might live through it.

@bicyclebuck thats what it sounds like from the article. It sounds like you need to hook it up to the unladen truck and it will remember the hitch height (I guess this is how it accounts for how much load it shares, based on hitch height/angle). It stores that setting, you disconnect, load the truck, then reconnect. Its not ideal but at 340 lbs it doesnt seem like a huge burden to jockey around a little bit.

@krustywantout That's a really good point. The tow bar to the dolly is pretty long too and acting as a lever on the frame/hitch. Ideally, it would be better placed directly under the hitch if it could clear the truck wheels. It would also help the loading issue @BicycleBuck and others mentioned.

@italia avoids potentially costly vehicle overload fines.

I guess that depends on what cop you can convince that this contraption is safe, legal and working as advertised. Seems like it would need some federal approval as a tag axle or something

@italia Looks janky. Would be easier to just take two trips.

@nermal I have no use for it but it'd be hard to take two trips with a fifth wheel...

@italia If you need one of these to pull a trailer, that means what you really need is either a bigger truck or a smaller trailer.
