R5!
Also, Fiat 500. No, not the current one, the new EV. This one is literally a three door, not two plus hatch but three actual doors, one on the left and two on the right.
*en bas dans le parking

@cé-hé-sin GIB the R5
-
but the rear door is like. half a door. so it's a 2+1 door, or something. like half an rx8 or something
-
@cé-hé-sin it's a pretty attractive car. Maybe not in rose gold but in the €2100 add on color celestial blue.
-
@nauraushaun
Still a door though. Portes antagonistes, they call them here. -
@cé-hé-sin Thank you for the acronym explanation. I got the EB and LP, but for the life of me couldn't remember "dans".
Super excited that both my girls are now taking French (7th and 9th grader). Oldest even joined the French club! I'll get to practice my extremely rusty French (high school was over two decades ago for me).
-
@cé-hé-sin Woah, the R5 looks absolutely mint! Are these valuable enough now to start being restored?
It's a shame Renault didn't stick around in the US. And I don't even mean the company itself. Their cars didn't stick around. They sold a reasonable amount of Le Cars but even looking around shop back lots I've been unable to find any evidence they were here at all.

@whoistheleader
Good question. It's the first one I've seen which would suggest that they're becoming collectible to some extent, but I couldn't see much value in one yet. -
@cé-hé-sin Some cars never really appreciate in value. The R5 might be remembered enough to become somewhat collectible.
-
@cé-hé-sin @Italia
I absolutely love the rose gold and the Fiat 500e 3+1.
Rose Gold
But all the colours look great
Glacier Blue
Onyx Black

It's actually not a R5 but a Super 5 (sold between 84 and 96) which is it's evolution and has less old school flair.
This kind of car can be youngtimers but even then, they won't have a huge value (at least at the moment), for example another one in red and looking to be in a similar condition, from 96 (the last year of production) and not a high mileage (76k KM), without rust is listed at 2600€ (and it's probably possible to lower the price).

This one seems more representative of what a good example might command.
Checking Craigslist for Renaults brings up diddly squat.
Hemmings has 9 Renaults for sale in the entire country
No Le Cars or imported R5s but THREE 4CVs are available!
Considering most of the few that are left are in similar shape to the only one I've seen, that's impressive.
-
@whoistheleader yes but the one he did spot was possibly not perfect either and is in France where it's not an extremely rare car (it's not common anymore to see them on the road but still easy to find used ones).
One note : It's an old style license plate number (starts with numbers then letters then 2 or 3 numbers for the département (or 2A/2B for Corse du Sud and Corse du Nord) so it has not changed owner since at least 2009 when the new format replaced it.
Hemmings is an American website so car listed for import are as perfect as possible and with quite the markup, BaT style.
In Europe, nobody would pay that much for such a model without any historic significance, even if it's in really great condition. -
@cé-hé-sin lol. like, antagonising door? that's awesome.
-

Yes, but it's that way for a reason. If you import an imperfect example, you're spending the next eternity waiting on a flaky seller to ship a radio bezel or door handle. Or worse, something keeping the car from running.
Yeah, I guess with that many sold there, there's bound to be a lot of rough ones for sale even if you don't see them often on road.
-
@cé-hé-sin That R5 is minty. I love those little cars.
