...unless you have to use Gojo on your face.

New starter's in. Fires right up and sounds a lot better.

In all seriousness - cars that have nearly done a quarter million miles are mankey and silicone grease is disgusting.

@mark-tucker I replaced a started once on an old diesel suburban and the new one worked so much better it was almost like a new truck. I'd been chasing other random ignition and fuel issues that had just been a slow starter.

Nicely done on the timely repair though!

@nickhasanexocet Definitely been there. Though my hair makes it easy - buzzed all over with a #1.

@mark-tucker Pretty sure I'll need a starter in the Accent soon again...last time it died was because the salt in the winter rusted the ground cable from two parts of it apart. It's starting to exhibit the same symptoms again every so often...

Me, every time I get under my '61 Ford which has a neat feature. Instead of paying someone to oil the underbody, the truck does that on its own with its various oil leaks.

Sure, I'll get around to replacing various gaskets. Some day. I promise. But right now I don't have time, I've gotta run to NAPA for another case of 10W-30.

@mark-tucker So, how much of a pain in the ass is the starter on that thing?

That's becoming less and less of a problem for me each year.

@ibrad It actually wasn't too bad. The positive terminal from the battery is hard to get to, until I figured out that you can take out the two mounting bolts and rotate the starter away from the oil pan enough to reach it. I did the whole thing without even jacking it up.

This one is 2WD, though, I don't know how much front axle stuff would be in the way on the 4WD version.
