So @nickhasanexocet and @Wrong-Wheel-Drive and @Alfalfa have convinced me to rent a convertible to hit the hills of southern Indiana next month to check out the foliage.

I figured, hey, I liked the S2000 I rented through Turo a couple of years ago and chased @ItalianJobR53 around in (minus the aftermarket exhaust drone, which the owner has since rectified) but I’d see what other manual transmission convertibles were available.

39 convertibles in my area dropped to 3 when I filtered them out.

The 2018 Mustang has only one photo, and is all the way down by @ItalianJobR53 in Columbus…and of course it’s probably an automatic. Description says automatic, metadata says manual, with one photo who knows. Seems sketchy regardless.

2016 Mustang? Also an automatic.

I decided to drop the convertible requirement and see what other manuals are around. Eight hits total, including the three above.

Every single one except the S2000 is actually an automatic.

…except the last one I would have expected: the Nissan Versa is really a manual. So two manuals.

Anyway, there’s exactly one convertible with a manual in central Indiana on Turo. I guess I should just be grateful there’s one, and it happens to be my sentimental favorite roadster.

With the way the weather is now, you want the drop top. You don’t want a Versa of any type. I’d say reserve the S2000 before it’s taken.

@beefchips Yep, rented and already confirmed. The guy has turned it into a big business, has several cars he rents out, so I guess like me he’s just hanging out late at night online.

@just-jeepin you can’t go wrong with an S2000, and the yellow will look great in fall foliage pic too.

the Miata I rented while I was in Florida this summer made that trip so much better. And it wasn’t any more expensive than getting some boring car because all the normal rental companies had jacked up their prices. Idk of that still the case tho.
If I go visit my buddy agin I’ll rent that same car again.

@hfv I’m a little surprised the prices on Turo don’t seem to have gone through the roof. Maybe things have stabilized a bit.

@just-jeepin What engines are in the Mustangs and have you driven one before? I rented an Ecoboost convertible a while back and it wasn't bad. I always lean towards renting a new experience. If there aren't any twisties around, a Mustang will probably be a better overall experience.

@nickhasanexocet I’ve driven my dad’s Mustang (2018?) once, V6, seemed fine enough. If these were actually manuals I’d probably give one a try sometime.

Plenty of twisties where I’ll be going, and I really do worship the stick shift.
