Cold start Fiatspam
-
Didn’t think I’d be able to take the Fiat out before spring, but I managed to get in a cheeky drive yesterday.
Here’s how it started after sitting for some weeks:
I think the ignition switch is failing again. I'm currently on my thrid one. Also, here’s a nice photo I took during the drive:

nice.

You need to find a more reliable ignition switch...
Is it only the contacts for the 'Start' position and not the contacts for the 'Off' and 'Run' positions? If that's the case, could you do something like wire up a small, cheeky, hidden momentary switch to act as a starter button instead?
-
@rallydarkstrike So far I had the start position fail on one and the run position fail on another.
Don't really want to modify the car with a starter button. I think the 2nd switch might be possible to resurrect with a good contact cleaner bath too.
-
I can understand that....hopefully a bath of cleaner will get the other one sorted!

It sounds. . . like a Fiat? Sadly I've never had the chance to hear an air cooled Fiat run. Sounds. . . nostalgic? Perhaps not objectively good sounding but very emblematic of an era. I do like the 126P a lot.
I shall cast my vote for more Fiatspam.

It's MOPAR Monday already

I've just realised this video looks awful for teh vast majority of people, because YouTube completely butchered the HDR. Sorry.
-
@whoistheleader They have a very distinct 'coughing' sound on startup
Here's a cold start video on one (-11C), so keep in mind they may not always be QUITE this hard to start, but it gives you a good idea
Classic FIAT 500s would sound pretty much exactly the same! (Same engine, just slightly smaller!)
-
@rallydarkstrike Yup. These were known for handling harsh conditions well so I would hate to see one of its contemporaries trying to start in -11 C.
