Reddit’s Just Rolled into the Shop is a veritable cornucopia of the many wonders and oddities of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.

I’ve seen holes in blocks. I’ve never seen one run long enough after it happened to trash the starter like that.

We brought the customer out and showed them and they had a tow truck come pick it up, don't know why she didn't want us to do it but

Owner uses this truck for a camp truck. His camp is on the other side of a river. There is no bridge. He then stored it inside. It's 1 degree out right now. He parked it outside the shop last night. Ta da?

...Apparently what happened is the driver ripped off the airlines disconnecting from a trailer he had dropped off so he went to the local gas station and bought new lines, what he didn't know is that he bought extra long lines for specialty trucks and then proceeded to install them without securing...

Starting to think that maybe it's time to officially add "obligatory rust post" to the weekly brake and tire entries...

Timing belt change on one of our forklifts. Can't believe it was still running until the actual belt broke. Mechanic said the engine is still OK though.

1 minute with an air hammer and I had it off. It's easy when you don't have to worry about destroying the rim.
For those wondering, this was the main reason they brought it in, plus balancing the new rims they were replacing these with. I believe they started with a framing hammer and then moved up to an axe... The axe also made it into the rear rotor as well.https://old.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/k6mvwn/nice_try/

The door was hit by an employee about a month back and it’s been running on borrowed time, so it finally fell off the track and took out the sprinkler head with it...

Guy bought a car off of eBay that wouldn't start. My coworker determined that there was something wrong with the push to start, and the wiring for that goes through the center console. When he took it apart, that's when found it. Whoever put it in there, accidentally disconnected one of the wires.
The guy was put in to a loaner car when he dropped off the vehicle, so the cops had us call him, and tell him it was done, then they waited in plain clothes for him to show up, and when he did, they swarmed his car. What is crazy, is that whatever he was charged with, he was found not guilty, got the car back from the police, and we fixed it for him.

...Front end got hit with the 556. Went through the battery/the water pump and some hoses. Shredded the wiring harness didn’t see any damage on the engine as of yet.

Yes. DO IT.
-
@jawzx2 I dunno man, I have a hard enough time keeping the brake and tire selections down to just ONE apiece. I think rust would be even more difficult one to narrow down since it rears its ugly head in so many ways.

Yeah, doesn't surprise me. We had a pretty gnarly windstorm pass through here last month. Blew the panels off my old fence again. Dec usually has a good storm as well.
-
So glad that these continued into the Hyphen era!
No comment on any of them, too much wtf -
@jawzx2 We could just have pictures of @Shop-Teacher 's truck every week.
-
That fuel leak will be back in a couple weeks in a new post where it's been wrapped in electrical tape and jb weld.
-
Reading these always makes me so anxious because I hate to know what new methods of torturing cars that the general public has discovered every week, but it's definitely a morbid fascination because I can't stop scrolling! Thanks for keeping it going!

Obligatory frame rust. Obligatory suspension rust. Other obligatory rust!
-
@silentbutnotreallydeadly Rust could be its own subreddit (if it isn't already?), like r/carbage or r/Shitty_Car_Mods
-
@urambo-tauro I see your point... I guess as long as there's usually a pickup broken in half on the lift, or a rusted-in-half subframe I would be unable to complain... hell I can't complain already, it's awesome that you put these together every week and post them for us non-reditors to enjoy.

Ouch man! I feel feelings you know!!
-
@jawzx2 Thanks! These are fun to put together.
And to be fair, it's not like I don't gravitate towards "carbage" or "shitty mod" -type posts sometimes... But I do try to keep it relevant. If I share a JRitS post that looks like it belongs in r/carbage, it's because it's directly related to the job at hand, like if the car is in for a heater core replacement. As for rust, well, that's almost always relevant haha. -
@urambo-tauro Why stop at just one?
The rust posts tend to be some of the more hilarious ones. -
@phenotyp Glad to hear it! I do try to pick the most interesting of the bunch, while maintaining a healthy variety. Sometimes I do share more than one rust post per roundup, but if I were to commit to a weekly "obligatory rust post", I'd have a hard time picking a favorite. Y'know, come to think of it, there has been an occasion or two where I couldn't make up my mind and shared multiple brake or tire posts.
At any rate, I'd encourage y'all to keep an eye on the JRitS subreddit throughout the week. There's so much more that you miss out on if you're just waiting for my roundups haha.
