Feel free to post comments and suggestions here (or repost any you've mentioned in the various test-threads elsewhere here) so that Jminer can more easily see a somewhat more accessible list of them! 🙂

Keep in mind it may, or may not be possible to implement them (some extra functions may be available as plug-ins for NodeBB), but there's no harm in creating a list of thoughts here to check in on!

Ones I've seen or thought of so far:

      1. A slideshow feature for images.

      2. A "true" sort for the 'Home' page showing threads in strictly chronological order, despite replies to them (similar to Kinja)

      3. An auto-thumbnail function that sets thumbnails based on the first uploaded image in a thread (similar to Kinja)

      4. Fixing the "can't upload jpgs as avatars on Linux and Mac, but CAN upload jpgs" glitch (if possible).

(Jminer edit here) I will be editing posts made by others to cross out items that I've adjusted or to make notes. Some of these requests are things the platform can't do (right now) but I'll do what I can.

      So I can keep track

      To fix/look into:

      • Instagram embedding
      • Tinker with preview text
      • Look into activating user groups to see if there is a way to create a group for EVERY user that we can use to @ mention all users of the forum on occasion if need be (similar to @everyone on Discord, for example)
      • 16:9 thumbnails
      • HTTPS
        *Gif embedding v uploading
        *Banner

      Fixed:

      • Turn off new user restrictions
      • Favicon and header
      • email notifications

I’d like to suggest a category for our own cars, and/or build threads.

Jminer edit A builds thread is a staple of forums and exists now.

Hope I don't sound like Mr Demanding. I don't know how many of these features are already here but:

          • Saving drafts.
          • I'm alright with the more coding-like editor, but I prefer the sleeker Kinja/DriveTribe style, and it might be off-putting for some.
          • Full screen editing preview, and editing in a new link rather than following you everywhere and blocking everything!
          • Sub-headings/bigger text.
          • More differentiation from posts and replies.
          • Image captions (and image rights lol).
          • Pins for important stuff like the lifeboats post, and I guess this.
          • Centred images option instead of the sloppier looking images pushed to the left.
          • Embeds for stuff like YouTube and maybe sidebar stuff for things like the Discord.
          • Topics should be renamed posts and posts should be renamed replies, it's really mucking me up.
          • I think the DT chat is quite popular, could have a chat here too.
          • DT has things like polls and quizzes, don't care much for them, but options wouldn't hurt.

Agree with a lot of KA467’s points

            • +1 on the strictly chronological home page post order, don’t need replies to posts from a month ago bumping those to the top
            • Underline feature for text, in addition to bold & italics
            • text size adjustment
            • image alignment (left, center, etc)
            • Not a huge fan of the coding-like editor either, but the preview pane really helps, so I could live with it. Prefer a sleeker interface though.

On the homepage, touching a post's thumbnail takes me to the author, not the post. As if, the thumbnail has replaced the author avatar. If I touch the post's title, I go to the post, so this maybe this is a glitch or maybe that's just how things work here.

Jminer edit It does that on desktop too. Honestly not sure that can be fixed right now. I'll put on the longer term requests list

@idiotinthegarage Does it do that for posts with an actual picture thumbnail or one if there isn't one (and it's thus defaulted to their user picture)? There are a couple posts with a specifically-added thumbnail (such as the 4runner oil filter access one) to check on.

I experimented a bit as well and that does seem odd that the thumbnail leads to the author and not the post - something to look in to for sure

I'm getting the same behavior on thumbnails. Android, Chrome, desktop mode.

Not really a request. I created my login on my desktop last night, but can't remember my password. I tried to login on my laptop with a password reset request, but I never got an email.

I was going to say that my posts kept bumping up because of my comments rather than staying in chronological order, but it looks like you're already taking care of that one. I would also suggest having the thumbnails be sized the same (or at least cropped the same) so that not all the pictures are different sizes. I think it'd make the site look super clean.

That being said, for whipping this up in a day, you can color me pink and impressed! Thank you so much!

Oh, one last thing. Replies would be nice if they weren't just a big long stream of replies, that way each reply can start a conversation (just like on Kinja, you know?) though I have no idea if that's possible here. Whatever you can do, we all sincerely appreciate it!

@taylor-martin The different sized thumbnails are my fault, I was playing with it and made multiple posts when it was set at different server settings. Everything from here should be 200x200 which looks good to me.

The replies are tough - this is a lot of how forums function so I don't think there is anything we can do about it

@jminer Alright cool. The thumbnail issue was going to murder my OCD, so I'm glad that's fixable (though I kind of think they should be rectangular, the typical resolution on Kinja, and not just a box. That might just be me though). I'll get used to the replies, which aren't bad at all... though how do I do a quote block? I don't see a quote option in the replies section? Or maybe I'm just blind...

Some people forget this is how it always used to be - it'll catch on 😉

(I'd be surprised if the forum backend would support branching conversations/replies off like kinja did but it would be cool if somehow it were so)

I don't have much to suggest that hasn't already been covered - again appreciate the effort and looking forward to getting things ironed out. Let me know if there's anything I can do beyond testing and poking along!

@mm54 Kinja and Reddit were the first forums I ever joined, so I never realized it was always like this. If that's the case, that'll be nothing more than a learning curve haha.

@mm54 There's really only one option I found that threaded commenting like Kinja that was integratable into other things - Disqus. It's on the ride-apart page and a few others. May be an option eventually but would have required us building a new front end too. This isn't perfect, but so far is a solid 80% on all our requirements so far.

I remember when nested quote threads would crash servers - ah the good old days...

@jminer Adding a contrast backround and or smaller font size to quoted text will go a long ways. Imo this reply system is fine.

It's an unclickable post of a fighter plane that you made, is it supposed to disappear? Because it hasn't yet. Sorry for bugging you again and again, just getting a grip on this whole thing that's all.
