What a dumb name... https://goo.gl/maps/Uy77ZFC68H9gHSpF9
-
@jb-boin is that a cactus?
-
Oh dear bloody god. And the sign on the door, 'come in we're awesome'.
Can you get any more hipster.
The image in my head of the owner is horrific.
Looked at the website and merchandise, yep, I was quite right. -
@highlander no, it's a C3 Aircross like this :
-
Hello there ! (it's just 50m from the OP shop)
Took my a while to recognize the car model.
-
@svend I'm imagining big beards or immaculately maintained moustaches, and sleeve tattoos by the dozen. I won't go to the site, but I imagine they have a penny farthing and unicycle section, too.
-
@fintail Probably has a barber shop in it as well.
-
@fintail
The website is clothing and bike rental (though not renting bikes at present die to covid).
Think skinny jeans, maintained facial hair and the odd tattoo here and there.'PUSH HARD, RIDE FAST', Urghhhh.
-
@dipodomysdeserti 69 Euro haircuts, no doubt. Artisinal, curated.
-
@svend LOL the socks. I guess I am too self-conscious ,or just too old for this stuff.
Surprised they aren't out on fixies.
-
@jb-boin That is actually a quite attractive interior, I like what Citroen is doing these days. Not as much as the old C6, but you take what you can get.
-
@ranwhenparked said in DOTS - Dumb On The Street:

I'm not sold on the Citroen C1 though.
The new Citroen C4 looks rather good though.
-
@jb-boin that is a charming little car.
-
@svend my friends bike shop here had a jersey this summer and it was a Hawaiian print. I bought one.
-
@fintail Cut with organic, free range clippers.
-
@svend the C1 being a rebadged 107/108 and Aigo, it did'nt have as much leeway as on other models unfortunately.
-
@dipodomysdeserti certified fair-trade, vegan, gluten-free
-
@fintail I would legit ride a Penny Farthing just for the heck of it. You see someone riding a penny farthing, you smile. It's as simple as that. In England, there's an enthusiast group that organizes Penny Farthing bicycle races, some of which are purpose-built for racing. Racing Penny Farthings exist. Penny Farthings are great

@awesomeaustinv My snark is more about some who have been drawn to them in recent times. Hipsters, we've gotta make fun of them!
I'm too old to dare try one of those, one spill and I'll be in trouble.
-
@fintail Eh, "hipster" is such a watered-down, generic, overused term nowadays that it's basically meaningless. At this point, most of the things we associate with hipsterism is just whatever's popular. I mean, organic stuff? Coffee? interesting shops? Music from bands you've never heard of? All this stuff has spread to pop culture, to the point where hipsters are practically indistinguishable from any other 20-30 year-olds who happen to like that kind of stuff. I mean, I've never considered myself to be a hipster or tried to be "hip," but I like indie music and fancy coffee and I drive an unusual non-mainstream car, so I'm practically a hipster myself, all I need now is a flannel shirt and an ironic tattoo. The way I see it, the purpose of these so-called "hipsters" is basically to popularize things they think should get more attention (obscure bands, organic/green products, small businesses/artists, etc.) so the general public becomes familiar with them, and then move on to other things once they've succeeded. And I can't really see much of a problem with that.
-
Eh, just a shop trying to make a "lifestyle brand" out of selling bike accessories. If they don't make something unique worth buying, then they'll fade out as their self created fad dies out.
Makes me feel lazy, they got a business going, and I can't think of a single damn thing I'd want to sell.
-
@svend Those too long t-shirts make me (ir)rationally angry
-
@jb-boin
But the Citroen C1 is so ugly,The Toyota Aygo is only marinally better,
While the Peugeot 208 looks great.
How could Toyota come out with the ugly Aygo, then come out with such a good looking car like the Yaris.
-
@awesomeaustinv I don't know. I think it still fits those who are overly showy about being "different", while seeking to be with others who are "different" (I'd then argue they aren't really "different"). It's the look-at-me vibe, which the shop in this thread screams, that makes the difference.
You'll know the hipsters if when the stuff they seem to like becomes mainstream, they then move on. Once Karen and Kevin (or these days, maybe Kennedy and Kaedin) get into certain things, it's all over. I don't think they are trying to popularize things, rather, to loudly announce they are different (and better).
-
@fintail Or "ahead of the curve," or bragging about being into something before it was cool... There are definitely people like that, my main point I guess is just that a lot of people who get labeled as "hipsters" aren't really hipsters. I guess it all depends on motive and whether someone identifies as a hipster. I think the main test is whether they continue to like something after it becomes popular, or become excited when something they like starts to gain attention. If they're into something because they like it, they're not a hipster. But if they're into something simply because it's new or not mainstream, they're probably deserving of the label. Still, the only people who they're really harming with this mindset is themselves. Imagine being frustrated by your favorite band becoming popular! How ridiculous.
