Brass is not my forté, but I think this James Morrison guy might be kinda decent...

His performance just gets more and more jaw-dropping.

I mean, I played multiple instruments in school band, but not simultaneously.
Nor, obviously, individually at anywhere near that level. Or even in the same hemisphere.

That's almost absurd how good he is at each of those. Wow!

James Morrison is the absolute shit. An extraordinary musician. Check him out here doing a "jazz off" with three other titans of the trumpet, Wynton Marsalis, John Faddis, and Arturo Sandoval. Despite all of Sandoval's histrionics, and Marsalis' trying to be the coolest kid in school, Morrison plays rings around them. I've got a soft spot for Faddis, whose playing is every bit as good, just different. What is so remarkable about his first, extended solo is how he shows off not only remarkable technique, but also a glorious sound from the lowest to the highest notes of the horn.
At about the ten-minute mark, they start trading short solos, and it becomes sort of a dick swinging contest, with Sandoval trying to prove just how big his dick is. I love the part where Sandoval starts his solo with some stupid high squeaky notes, and Morrison follows with a pedal tone (super low note). But what Morrison does at 14:13 is just nuts.

@aestheticsinmotion he was a very decent man. I watched him perform many times back in the day but seeing and hearing it just 8 feet in front of me on the stage in the university bar back in 1989 was quite something. And he was good about our idiot alcohol assisted idolatry afterwards too...

I thought he was also a decent host on TG: Australia as well.
