Someone was discussing the need (or lack thereof) for a photography category, and I decided it was time to do a dump of some of my favorite road photographs.
These are almost entirely from southern Indiana, but one snuck in from Ohio; I'll be impressed if anyone can figure out which one it is.

-
@smallbear Yeah, that was the purest of dumb luck.
-
@just-jeepin Some of the best things are.
-
@smallbear The only unlucky aspect: the photography competition @CB coordinated on Kinja for that month was "Light"...but it started 2 days after I took that photo.
-
-
Fourth from last pic is Ohio. What did I win?
-
@just-jeepin Fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
-
-
@davesaddiction Thanks. Maybe I'll take this one over to DT, haven't done anything there since the first week or so.
-
@just-jeepin It's worthy of more eyeballs, for sure! Still hoping for a good tool where we can compose once and publish both here and at DT.
-
@just-jeepin Awesome pics. Admittedly, I'm not used to white hoods in your pictures!
-
Those are all very beautiful pictures
-
@just-jeepin Ohio?
-
@flatisflat Gold star for you!
-
@huzer Yeah, as I've lamented previously, it doesn't have the same presence as the yellow fender/hood.
-
@annoying_salman Thanks. Indiana is a forgettable state for the most part, but it does have some beautiful rural areas.

Every time I heard about Indiana, I always remember about Parks and Recreation sitcom.
I want to go road-tripping with the Taft and doing green laning just like in your pictures, but there are too many things to fix just to make it adventure-worthy
-
@annoying_salman Ugh, tell me about it. I bought a second Jeep because I wanted to make sure I had one available all the time, so of course the second Jeep is currently in the shop for another big repair.

Wait, what? Your Grand Cherokee is also having problems? You have to tell me too about its problem(s).
Here are list of problems my Taft are currently having:
-
Needs to repair (rebuild?) the transfercase, as the lever keeps popping back to neutral after a short move in 4H/4L. My father never uses the 4x4, and the last time it was used was before the year 2000.
-
The rear tires are well beyond their expiration date – left one was manufactured in 2007, while the right one was from 2004. The front tires were replaced in 2019 with the correct size – 235/70 R15 Bridgestone Dueler A/T D683, which I think isn't aggresive enough. I want to have D697 instead, as it has more aggresive pattern while still suitable for inner-city uses.
Previously the Taft uses a set of second-hand tires from my uncle's Suzuki Jimny with smaller size (195/80 R15) that has been out of commission for several years for its front tires. Most of them were torn open during use, thankfully I always managed to drove back home safely.
-
Smoke coming out from the crankcase breather system. Seems because of worn piston rings?
-
Monday morning I'm going to the shop to repair its steering box. It leaks oil and I have to turn the steering wheel a little bit to the right to make the car going straight. The alignment shop can't align it properly.
-
I replaced the exhaust pipe last Thursday as it was disintegrating due to rust, and while the car was on lift, the mechanics showed me several rust spots that compromise the car's body. They quoted $529 and 3 weeks to weld and repaint the underbody.
And here's a list of what I had done to the car since being employed and having my own money to spent repairing it, before ultimately being laid off last September:
-
Changing the front leaf springs in January, and the rear in February. I don't know when did they were installed, but they already sagged and borderline useless.
-
Changing the front dampers with Old Man Emu Nitrochargers in March. I also don't know for how long the front dampers had been in use, but they were also sagged, and they just sank to their installed position with no resistance at all when I pressed them.
-
Changing the front tires bearings in August. When the shop disassembled the front hub, they found that the right bearing was disintegrated and grinding against the wheel hub assembly. They offered two choices: the original one priced at $211.57 while the knockoff priced at $21.16. I chose the knockoff one, and God knows how long it can survives given it was priced one-tenth of the original one.
It seems that my Guardian Angel works really hard to keep me alive every time I drive the Taft

@annoying_salman Wow, ok, I don't feel so bad!
My problem this time is pretty simple: replace all the brake components in the rear. Caliper was somehow damaged on the passenger side, and so they're redoing both.
Unfortunately that's about $900 worth of hardware and labor, but on the plus side, that's the only major thing wrong right now that I'm aware of. The dealership tried to sell me on replacing the transfer case and front driveshaft for $3k, but when I got a second opinion, they couldn't find anything wrong with either.

Lucky bastard

Why did the dealership tried to sell you those?
-
@annoying_salman I don't know. They must have seen something, but I need to grill them for more details.

They are trying long-term psychological warfare to you. They know that you will ask for other opinions that surely can't find what's wrong with the parts. It worries you, and then they hope you finally caved in and buy those parts from them

@smallbear I was gonna post the same comment. Amazing pic!
