cdd4e989-6b6c-407f-8aef-8ff192fd3a29-image.png This is the story of an unlikely race car--the Woo as it was known to us.
We hillclimb up mountians in Vt. And we know how to have fun. One weekend, one of our regulars broken car wasn't going to be running in time. Another member runs his own wrecker at the hill. And also has a shop that does towing. "Come check out the yard-I'm sure we can find something." The Daewoo was an abandoned unwanted car that I'm sure came with a"We can finance anyone!" deal. "See if it starts!" And after a year and a half--it did!. The very gross interior got torn out-rules required fire extingusher and that was it. "Screw it-the wrecker is going to the hill anyways-if it dies, i'll just scrap it." So everyone is getting a laugh at it going thru tech. And with its 1.3 Vtech engine and 130k miles, he was able to do the whole hill flat out! The same rubber that came on it sqealing away.
Yea it was slow but he was still having fun. And it didn't die! So it got brought along to the other 8 or so hills for the season. It was like the unwanted car that would follow around the Top Gear guys on their adventures. It ran-and ran and ran! It needed brake pads (hard to find for a car that the company went belly up) and maybe a wheel bearing. that was it. For FIVE years! Put it in low and leave it. If the vtech kicks in (YO!) it will shift to second automatically. Everyone took at turn at it. All you can do is laugh after doing a run with it.
Which brings us to the "Intergallactic Daewoo challange". Our last event of the year is short hill and you can get in many runs. So if you wanted to get a run, everyone chipped in $5 for the entry. This was going to be interesting. There were 4 of us with at least 20 years experience hillclimbing-but in all kinds of different rides. I drive a bike powered small car-another guy has a 78 Camaro-a couple of Subbie guys-Eagle Talon-etc. A couple of the players got their runs in on Saturday-with good road conditions. But the rest of us had a cold wet road. And the winner is......a 18 year old kid that was in the event as a navigator in the rally class! Never drove the road-never tried driving fast-never drove the Woo! Kicked all our asses! 🙄 This video MAY be speed altered. 😀

@sdwarf36 That's amazing! A frickin Daewoo Lanos up a hillclimb is exactly the sort of wacky thing I want to see more of in motorsports. I'm honestly shocked at how good it looks for its age. It's extremely impressive it's lasted this long as a joke car tagalong at hillclimbs.

Is that the actual engine note sped up? It sounds like an F1 car kinda maybeish.
