I did a new RedBubble art!
....first one I've posted to Hyphen and the first one I've done in quite awhile. Life, work, more work and the whole 'Oppo Kinja being brutally murdered' thing all got in the way!
I went with a new style on this one to experiment...it's a fading gradient into transparency with only the outline on one side. The license place speaks for itself...pretty sure you all know what this one is!

Awesome art... love these cars. There's a semi-local one that always looks so nice parked resting at engine off height.

@rallydarkstrike I worked with someone who grew up in a small village in French Guiana in the '60s and '70s, she wasn't really a car person (drove an older Grand Marquis), but walked in when I had a DS picture up on my computer (probably some Jalopnik post) and got all excited about it. She remembered all the important government officials having them, and being so impressed on the rare occasions when one would drive through her town, it looked like a spacecraft floating along. She also said everyone always did refer to them only as Déesses, being clear to never use the actual two letters, even though its basically the same thing. Also shared that she had never seen one since coming the the US, and hadn't seen them all that much before then.

@spacekraken Awesome! A gentleman local to me used to have one in a custom 'sunny yellow' but sold it and now has a gorgeous silver Citroen SM!
-
@ranwhenparked That's an awesome story! They definitely are like nothing else and have so much presence! I've never seen one in person sadly....the only Citroens of any type I've seen in person are the classic SM that is owned by a local British chap, and a Citroen Jumper/Relay RV I saw in town that had been imported by some tourists temporarily the other year!
-
@rallydarkstrike She's also the one that really tried hard to buy an old Chrysler Town & Country JXi we had sitting in our parking lot for months, but my boss was insisting on full Bluebook value, even though it was high mileage and not in the best cosmetic shape. So, it sat there until the battery died, the tires went flat, and some neighborhood kids vandalized it, and we sold it for scrap for like $200. She may have dodged a bullet on that one, but it at least would have been more comfortable for driving around 3 kids and their friends than the GrandMa.
-
@ranwhenparked That's a shame...so you lost profit and something perfectly serviceable was left to die
-
@rallydarkstrike The guy was fundamentally an idiot and also a compulsive hoarder with probably several untreated mental issues, who was eventually fired (cough, forcibly retired) by the board for embezzlement. Surprisingly, not the worst boss I've worked for though, actually pretty lazy and hands-off, and I tend to do pretty well in power vacuums.

I am inclined to trust that as it is a very distinctive car with immense presence on the road. I did once have a German lady promise me Europe is full of cars like the Renault Caravelle we were standing in front of but that turned out not to be the case. I guess a Caravelle looks like every other old car. Even in Europe they weren't incredibly common and are still a little left field.

The only working French car I've seen was a shockingly mundane Renault Captur. I hope one day to be able to see a hydropnuematic Citroen in person.

You rang?
(Kidding)
The gradient is super cool!
-
@whoistheleader I just realized that was a lie, I have seen an Acadiane van and a duo of 2CVs as well...but only through my windshield while passing them (as was the Jumper/Relay)

Well, technically one Dyane and one 2Cv, but you're good. I accidentally lied as well. I've seen and sat in a modified 2CV and once saw an unmodified one nearly identical to the one you saw.
What do you call multiple 2CVs? A herd of Two Horses? A gaggle of 2CVs? A troop of snails?
-
@WhoIsTheLeader ....4CV?
-
@rallydarkstrike A pack could be a 16CV!
-
Naw, the Traction Avant 15-6 was actually 16CV, so we'll let that old girl carry the 16CV torch

The Renault 4CV was also a thing.
