Most weaksauce trim level name
-
I've been thinking about the most weaksauce sounding trim level names. And I think LY or CH are the most theoretically weaksauce sounding trim levels.
What's the most weaksauce trim level designation in your view?
-
@manwich Work truck. Can't get any more basic than that.
-
'Sport'
-
"Limited"
We had a Buick growing up. It was very limited...
-
@Manwich Honda's "SE" (Special Edition!) trim always bothered me. It sounds fancy, but what it was really a mid-trim (LX) with some features from the highest trim (EX). Unsure if they're still doing it, but they were everywhere (also not very special) when I was shopping in the mid-2000s. Bonus points if it was an SE with the GOLD PACKAGE! (Did Honda actually offer that, or was it just Toyota?)
-
@ibrad "Sport" is funny. Some brands use it as their sub-luxury trim, some use it as their absolutely spartan base trim.
-
@Manwich i<_>
Just stop piggybacking Apple already and come up with your own thing.
-
@manwich First thing that comes to mind is "custom", but maybe that doesn't count if we're talking about weak sounding names... Custom does actually sound appealing, but the meaning falls totally flat when it's just another stock trim level. LAME

Yeah but while it's basic, does it qualify as weaksauce?
-
LS. No, it doesn't have an LS, it just means "loser, suck it!" because I'm a poor.
-
Toyota's "CE" trim is pretty weaksauce. I mean, "classic edition" sounds nice when you say it out loud, but it's a brand new car, and it means "base". Euphemism much?

I recall Honda being big on various gold packages in the 2000s. It came across as overpriced superficial crap to me.

@manwich
The Chevy trim nomenclature doesn't mean anything unless you know what it means
1LT
LT1
1RS
or whatever -
Hyundai used to (might still tbh) offer a trim for Elantras that was economically oriented and mostly a stripper. The name: "Blue".

or whateverOBVIOUSLY 1LT means 1 Lettuce Tomato sandwich
And 1RS is 1 Radish and Spaghetti meal... -

Hmmm... and if you work in healthcare and are familiar with the term "Code Blue", it can affect the perception of that in a bad way.
-
@qaaaaa As in, you're blue that you couldn't afford something better.
Not a trim, but I always loved seeing a Ford Aspire (to get a better car next time).
-
@akioohtori Read this somewhere but not sure how true it holds - the Japanese brands used "Special Edition" as a way to package up a bunch of options on the last year of a particular model before a refreshed / new model was released.

Yeah... In the Jeep world, Sport is usually the poverty spec or one above the poverty spec.

I would like to point out I had the 'i' before Apple did. They have a better marketing dept though.
-
@akioohtori I once did a PPI for friend on late 90's 4 cylinder Accord that was an SE and had the gold badges. It was purple, too. IIRC, it wasn't bad but the deal wasn't amazing and they didn't buy it.

Could also be Lettuce Sandwich...

This is true. I was thinking of the low end trim with a sporty name so you don't feel so bad.
Also see @davesaddiction "Limited" that's pretty good on a 4Runner!
-
@manwich Yes because you can't really get any more basic than that.

I have a CE toyota. Didn't know it was 'classic edition' but its pretty obviously the base model.
