Oppostocks Poll... which BEV startup do you think will die first?
-
So on the last update for our Oppostocks game, I was in last place.
But since that time, things have turned around... and now I'm in first place!
https://www.marketwatch.com/game/opposite-stocks2021/rankingsAnd I did that by changing strategies... instead of making bets on things that might go up, I decided to start betting on things going down.
And of course the long picks others made that went down also affected the rankings.
And my #1 shorting pick that turned my ranking around is Nikola. And I recently made another short pick... Lordstown Motors. I find a good strategy is to short them on 'up' day... because the overall trend for these is down. And without any real revenues (let alone earnings), I think it's more likely things will go from bad to worse and then to insolvency at some point for these two.
And that leads me to thinking about a poll... which of these companies do you think will die first? I set the poll so you get 5 votes... you can dump them all on one company... or spread it out among one or two or more that you think are just more likely to die.
-
And for the poll, the names of the companies are:
FFIE-Faraday future
GOEV - CANOO
LCID - LUCID
NIO - NIO INC
NKLA - NIKOLA
RIDE - LORDSTOWN MOTORS -
@manwich so just coincidence the day I drop from 1st you post about the Oppostocks game?
I really blew it with the HOOD bet.
-
@manwich I'd also say Lordstown or Nikola!
I'd say at this point Faraday, Lucid and Nio seem pretty legit....Lucid especially...
They don't have stock, but I really hope Nobe doesn't become vapourware...I love that thing!

Total coincidence. I just happened to look... and there I was in 1st place,
And I have to say that HOOD definitely looked like a good pick. I would have guessed that it would do well. I just checked their financials, and they are growing nicely
https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/hood/financials/income/quarterBut in the most recent quarter, they got hit with a $1.49 Billion 'other operating expense'.
Do you know what that was?
I also noticed they have a ton of debt.

Lordstown was mainly just a prop for GM and [politics redacted] and wasn't actually intended as a serious effort, so that is my answer
-
@manwich Does my vote count if I never heard of any of them?
-
@dogisbadob On the other hand, Nikola appears to just be an actual prop.
Which one will burn through their cash on hand first? Because it seems both will have difficulty raising any more funds.
-
@manwich That's a tough one. Especially between RIDE and Faraday. Both are seemingly near DOA as it is. I might give the nod to RIDE as the first one to go, though.

Well technically, you've heard of them now...
-
@dieseldub I didn't want to go Faraday because they've seemingly been dead for years, it seems plausible they'll be able to keep shambling on a while longer. Also because I think their car is cool (I'm not sure how much having an actual driving prototype helps them at this point when it's already four years old. Even if their IPO plan or whatever goes through, it seems like it would be pretty obsolete by the time they could bring it to market.

All of the above?
