I've ordered a thing

A thing I've been considering for approximately three years. Canon's refurb sale got to me. Fingers crossed I get a good copy and the fun landscape photos can commence!
-
Fun, is that 2.8 or 4? (I shoot Nikon so no clue)
-
@italia F4 but stabilized! Pretty good tradeoff (the 2.8 is about double the cost) and I've done plenty of astrophotography with F4 lenses before so not too concerned.
-
Nice I have the nikkor z 14-30 F4 and it is quite fun.
-
@spacekraken that should also be a good macro
-
@classicdatsundebate Ehh my 50mm actually gets closer/higher magnification, I don't think most ultrawides can correct for near range that well. But I'd definitely like to get a macro lens at some point!
-
@spacekraken my 50mm prime is great as a macro but my 18-55 kit works great as well. That’s why I was thinking your new lens might do the same.
-
@classicdatsundebate Oh for sure! This I think comes down to the difference between crop sensor (guessing based on the 18-55) and full frame. The difference is since the 16-35 covers full frame (bigger sensor), it's optics are corrected for much more wide angles than the 18-55 covering APS-C. They probably get to the same magnification, but APS-C gives a narrower field of view at 18mm than FF does at 18mm. They both have their uses-crop cameras do a fair bit better for things like birds, races, macro and such, full frame is nice for landscapes and portraits.
-
@spacekraken ahh, I didn’t catch the full frame. sweet! Mines a DX so it’s 1.5x...is that also the Canon equivalent crop? Or do they have a different factor than the Nikon? I know, off topic but I love picking up photog knowledge
-
@classicdatsundebate I think all APS-C crops are all the same. (1.6x iirc)

Not OT at all! Yeah it's FF, an older 6D DSLR but I love it. Canon is 1.6x on crops, everyone else's crop is 1.5 for added confusion lol.
-
Nice! That’ll work great. I too have a 6D, and I too love it. Enjoy & post something you take with it!

Nikon, Sony, and Pentax have a 1.5x crop. 1.6 is Canon. Canon uses slightly smaller sensors.
