Farting around with Blender
-
So, for the past few weeks I’ve been learning subdivision modeling with Blender. When I was working on the ekranoplan, I knew that subd modeling (instead of fucking Solidworks) would have made the job orders of magnitude easier, but I didn’t have the time to learn it on the fly, and you go to war with the army you have.
So I’ve been teaching myself the same way I learned Alias Autostudio at Ford: by modeling my Cobra from my internship. It’s nowhere near done, but I hooked my laptop up to my spare monitor today and dropped what I have into Keyshot, just to see how the import files get handled.
Long way to go, but I thought I’d share it with y’all.
Here was the Cobra I did back in 2002:
... And now I'm getting it more like how I wanted it back then, with airflow all the way through from the bodyside, and out the back.

@phenotyp It's starting to look very un-Cobra-like, but in a good way.

Dem hips...
-
@davesaddiction Cobras are ALL about the hips, and the lunge up to the front wheel arches.
-
@phenotyp That looks amazing. The original sketches were done by hand though, right? I still can't wrap my head around how you do that. Good to see you around as well; I may have missed something, but last time I saw you post, you didn't seem to be in a very happy place.

@streetsofperth Thanks! Yeah, the original sketches (like all sketches) are by hand, regardless whether analog or digital. Thanks for checkin in; I'd say that things around here havenn't improved much. Still searching for work, and the kiddo starting back to in-person school during a massive virus surge.. days aren't easy.
But I've been keeping myself occupied whenever I have time, learning Blender, and trying to (re-) develop this Cobra design, including an interior, so that if I can land another project like the ekranoplan, I'll save myself a TON of pain.
Anyway, thanks! -
