So my new carbon fiber hood for the mini has no hood latches at all. where the hood latches would be on the factory hood is just two holes. I was expecting this and bought a set of quik-latch hood pins awhile back however they required a nice flat spot to mount them which the mini hood has none of. I also didn't feel like fabbing my own mounts and messing with the factory latch location permanently in case I did want to go back to a factory steel hood. So they were out of the question.
Through my internet research I realized the mini challenge cars used a set of external hood latches as a safety and an idea was born.
They do a good job of holding the hood down but I'll still probably do some kind of safety latch on the inside which will require some brain cell power so I need to be very careful with my next step of the project because I'm going use multiple things that are good at killing brain cells.
This is one of those things. Lots of people recommend putting a clear coat over carbon panels to help stop them from clouding up and/or yellowing. I'm taking it a step farther and painting it red but opaque so you'll be able to see the carbon weave though the red basecoat. Don't know how it'll turn out but hopefully it goes well.

@aperson I meant to say translucent not opaque. I think the paint has already started killing my braincells

it's worth it though because the carbon weave plus external hood latches look dope
