...for the CT4-V Blackwing?
Well, it kinda became semi-necessary. I just got a notification that my storage facility is closing, and now I have 2 months to decide whether to find another storage to continue to rotate my cars, or consolidate back to 1, in this case the Cadillac.
I've been casing it out for some time to put my money where my mouth is, and buy a brand-new RWD manual sedan and constantly lusting over the CT4-V. But it still comes down to I really don't want to give up my Solstice though. Yes, I've had her for like 10 years by now, every drive is still a smile. The BMW, well, it was a drunk purchase so I could let go easy. Honestly it never wowed me like I thought it would, I rather drive my mechanic's E46.
-
@tonicipriani I think driving the CT4 is what’s gonna let you decide whether it’s worth letting the Solstice go. The reviews give high praise on the driving characteristics so I’d think it could sway you. Drive it, then buy it if it tugs at the heartstrings the way the Solstice does.
That’s what I did for my WRX, which at the time was a bit of a financial plunge. It was a dream car for me so I drove it and couldn’t stop thinking about it for the next few days. I went back and ordered one and it’s probably the best decision I’ve ever made.

@daswauto I think I'm gonna have a hard time convincing dealers to let me test out a Blackwing when they don't have one in stock, and the only one that listed one says it's in order and loaded up with every single option lol.
-
@tonicipriani why not sell the bimmer, buy the blackwing, and keep the solstice in a new storage unit? Quick google says that solsti-i may even be appreciating??
-
@beefchips If I go that route I would have a car payment AND storage costs, that would definitely be out of budget. And it's just silly to finance a car that I'm going to use half a year per year. BMW's all paid for and as long as the N20 doesn't blow up, I'm good.
And yes, private sales on Solstices are like triple of what dealers are wholesaling them for.

You might be surprised. I stopped in to Sewell Cadillac and asked to look at the CT-4 and 5. They didn't have stock in the CT-5, but they were insistent that I could test drive one that they had just sold. I didn't feel comfortable test driving someone else's car without their knowledge. The point is, as my mom said, "you don't ask, you don't get."
-
@tonicipriani yeah, that could be tough but it should be doable. You might have to settle for a drive in an auto and then order the manual if you decide to go for it.
Hell, I had a hard time getting someone to let me try a WRX, being a then 25 year old dude I apparently gave off vibes of recklessness, I guess. The salesman that sold me the car convinced his manager to let him take me out in the car and then switched seats with me as soon as we were out of sight. I barely even haggled when I went back because he earned that sale then and there.
Alternative thought: try an ATS-V and sit in a CT4 or any sort and see if that combo gives you a good feeling and take a leap on the CT4 if it does.

Bummer, budgets ruining all the fun

I actually prefer the look of the CT4-VB, but the noises that the CT5-VB makes make me feel all funny inside...
Sadly, those are crazy money, and the manuals probably won't ever depreciate. Glad I made my move when I did!
-
@davesaddiction CT4's my size limit. Sometimes I even think my F30 is on the large side. I just don't need nor want anything bigger.
-
-
My E90 was a great size. I went a little bigger with the SS (the kids are very appreciative), but I look forward to going back down in size at some point (M2 Comp?).

SS's (SS'? SSs?) are going for stupid money now
gonna be a looooong time before I can even think about going for one
-
Seriously, it's crazy. The guy who sold me mine 9 months ago probably could've sold it for $10-15k more if he'd waited (and continued to not drive it LOL).
-
@davesaddiction Now the profit is yours!
-
Only if I sell.
Regardless, it's nice to think I might be able to drive this car for however many years and then sell it for what I gave for it!
We'll see.
-
@davesaddiction I got $5 if you want to sell to an Oppo lol
-
Let me sleep on it.
-
@davesaddiction There's actually an E90 LCI in my building that's constantly parked next to an A-Class hatch. The two were visually the same size.
-
Pretty sure the E90 was classified as a compact.
Uses its space very efficiently, but behind me (34" inseam) there wasn't much leg room (just enough).
-
@chariotoflove Actually that would make me hesitant to buy the car from them. Heck what would they do to my car when I do...
-
@tonicipriani I can relate to this somewhat - fun sports car, fine practical BMW. But my constant wavering between: “one car to rule them all” and “two cars is the only way to have a fun sports car and still be practical” is not a matter of necessity but my own indecision.
Before used car prices became what they are I was watching M2s slowly fall toward $33k at the low end and was feeling itchy knowing anything under $30 was plausible. Now thankfully they are $37-38 which I just wouldn’t do. So problem solved.
If I were you, I’d go drive one if you can find one and they let you.
-
@tonicipriani yes, but I’m not saying your dealer would do that. I’m saying your dealer might not be as hesitant to let you test drive as you might think.
-
So this is what the MSRP looks like... bare bones with just the heated seats package and premium paint. Didn't go for the green because it's matte on the V Blackwing, they don't have the regular green.
Sort of yikes... still end up cheaper renting a second spot, lol.
