My Biggest Lego Model Yet (and it steers!)
-
I previewed this one a little while back, but with the exception of the miss-matched driver's side door (which at least kind of goes with the color scheme), it is now done.
It took ordering some parts on Bricklink (nobody had a red driver's side door), as well as a lucky score of a couple of Technic pieces I'd never seen before from the bulk bin of my local Bricks and Minifigs, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. It actually grew a bit, to almost 25" long (63.5 cm in communist units).
The model started because I had found three of the tire and wheel combos that I used as the front tires, as well as the spare tire, which is also what does the steering.
Now, to be honest, I did take some inspiration, and borrow a couple details from a Lego rollback truck set (I forget the number, and am too lazy to look it up.
While the set has the added coolness of a moving hood that reveals an engine, and also flashing lights. My model has MUCH more steering angle and a WAY tighter turning radius.
Here are a gratuitous amount of pictures of it driving around my workbench.
My initial design of the trailer had the tongue of the trailer disconnectable for loading, like a real lowboy trailer. Unfortunately that proved to be too weak for the weight of the massive bulldozer.

@shop-teacher Wow. That is very impressive. I would need my grandson to help me drive that around.
-
@rusty-vandura I'm afraid it's not built to "grandson" strength specifications
-
@shop-teacher Jackknifed! Nice work
-
@shop-teacher That reminds me of a big rig and trailer I made a longggg time ago. Back in 2010! Its one of my 1st SNOT builds. Studs Not On Top
Yours has better turning radius

@shop-teacher This kit isn't that big, but I dare say it's almost that over the top:

@hammerheadfistpunch Niiiiiiiiice! That was one I always wanted and never got. That old Model Team stuff is just the best. That set showed up unopened at my Bricks and Minifigs last year. I wanted it bad, but not $700 bad.
-
@brickman That's awesome! I love the car hauler too!

Hehehe, I should drive for Swift.

@shop-teacher Sir, the blade on that D8 requires a βWide Loadβ banner on the front bumper along with the proper permits. Please respect your fellow motorists. Much danger. What is this forum coming to!?
-
@jeepoftheseus You're right. I'm a monster!
-
@shop-teacher I saved for that kit. I think it was $70
-
@hammerheadfistpunch I always got impatient and blew my money on smaller sets.
-
@shop-teacher Cool truck! It reminds me of a truck I built back in 2015:
It had an old Mindstorms RCX built into it, with a basic program that made it drive forward slowly when a car was placed on the flatbed.
Accompanied by a colorful VW Bug copied from I design I found on the internet

@awesomeaustinv Very cool!
