I Have a Seat
-
After 2 1/2 weeks, the car is finally drivable again, turned out to be a bigger job than anticipated. He found two more splits I didn't notice before, and also decided to take apart the seams and restitch, instead of gluing and patching. Unfortunately, I'm going away this weekend, missed 3 car shows over the last one, and can't drive it to work much, since I'm on the road the next 3 days.
Now, I'm going to need to Svend the rest of the interior to match, because the drivers seat cleaned up noticeably lighter than the rest.

@ranwhenparked Looking great!
-
@shop-teacher They're surprisingly cushy, too, especially for an old economy car. I think GM used the same basic seat design in the '64 Buick Skylark and Olds Cutlass
-
@ranwhenparked I wouldn't doubt it. GM loves a good parts bin!
-
@shop-teacher For better or worse
-
@ranwhenparked Often both!

@ranwhenparked Oh man I can smell those seats from here, my uncle has a '63 Impala w the 327. Fisher body too. Vinyl seats too., white though. We drove it last year, but the transmission crapped out and we've been sitting on it since. We are gonna fix it one day. Uncle been having some health problems.
-
@s65 Yep, there is a distinct smell. Kind of stays with you after you get out, too. The good news is the aftermarket is ridiculously strong on those full-size Chevies, so the car can sit and wait and it will be ready for you when you're ready for it
-
@ranwhenparked Oh yeah, there is actually a parts dismantler that gets a lot of Camaros and Vettes with LSs and newer engines. We talked about going that route and getting a modern 6 speed or the like.
-
@s65 Well, you've got to do the transmission anyway, so, while you're at it, might as well do the engine, too.
-
@ranwhenparked Thought about it, that's a lot of time and expense for a car he doesn't drive much. He really only wanted a 6+ speed for better gearing on the highway and stuff for fuel economy so he can actually drive. Might be worth getting the 4 rebuilt if it's a numbers matching Muncie and engine. I've been waiting for him to come up so we can take a look at it.

@s65 said in I Have a Seat:
Yeah, then you at least know it works and will all go together, no extra engineering or special fab work. -
